DS is 8 and very small (about 43 lbs, 45 inches). Grandpa watched practice last night and called today with a concern about his landings. He said that he is coming down from the rings, bars, etc. from way higher than the other kids due to his height and he wondered about the stress on his joints.

Thoughts? I always thought the landings were difficult due to his height, but I wasn't really concerned with it.

On the other hand, he is also that much lighter than the other kids, meaning less stress on the joints.

well, what is he landing on? it may be set up for ALL of them to land without concern. good for Grandpa for asking though.:)

My son is a little shorter than yours and also has about 2 feet further to fall than the rest of the kids on his team. They all fall into a pile of mats, but it is still a long way to go. At the first meet I was shocked at how high the rings looked. They found some mats but they were as high or higher than then high bar. Our coach had to find a taller man to help boost the kids.

At the meet we went to last Sunday, my little 42 lb guy had to go on some really high Pbars. The coach had to scrounge up a block mat and he was questioned why he was doing it. They didn't even have a springboard handy for him to jump up on the bars. His dismount was not great because of the Pbars being so oddly high.
