Hi Everyone,

Let's all share our worst fails! (can be at a Compitition, Practice, home, ETC)

Mine:

this was a couple of days ago. i was doing a side HS dismount on beam (Side HS or quarter turn is the reqiurement for Silver at our gym) and just before i hit a HS, my legs curled into my stomach, i went the way a quarter turn goes (i dont have one yet) and i FACE PLANTED into the mat. I'm ok, just with a sore nose! :)

Oooo! I got a good one.

I was practicing full turns on beam. I had just moved them up to high beam. I got 3/4 of the way around, my foot slipped, and I landed on the beam... on my chest. Just some badly bruised ribs and hairline fractures... nothing major. Was out for a few weeks.

There was also the time when someone told me a half-on vault was just a round-off over the table. My shoulder didn't agree with that so much and crumpled under me. Just a sprain but I was in a sling for 2 weeks.

ouch!

Not a physically painful fail (but mentally painful to 9 year old me), but at one of my first meets ever, we were on vault, and I was doing the xcel bronze vault (handspring flat back), and I did not get up into a handstand and face planted onto the mat.

Fun Fact #1: My profile picture is from that video of me face planting
Fun Fact #2: Out of about 10 girls, I got 1st place on vault at that meet (and my first time EVER getting 1st on an event)

For a physically painful fail story, this happened a few weeks ago, but I have done this specific fail more than once. I was on beam doing a full turn, and my big toe had gripped the beam as I was spinning and pretty much bent half way in a direction it should not go and I slipped off the beam.

Most famous fail was when I miraculously transported into a cartoon universe as I was falling to my death.

I was on high bar facing away from the low bar and went for a front giant. At the bottom of my giant, I peeled off the bar and flew into the low bar. The low bar caught my calfs which caused me to flip backwards. I did a back flip over the low bar and almost landed on my feet. All this happened in under a millisecond so I couldn’t plan for the landing. Just physics and luck got me back to planet earth unscathed.

OUCH!!

I have so many…

One specific one I remember was going for a front handspring front tuck, I want for the front handspring but I guess I just decided that was a no, so I threw myself onto the floor on my stomach instead of tucking.

I have fails on all events, but one on bars, I had just caught the high bar and was doing my kip, but I came of the bar right after I had finished my kip, I was falling down and hit my whole upper body on the bar but then was able to catch it with one hand.

I peel off of the high bar, came down towards the low bar, hit by shins on the low bar and spun around to my back. I did that twice.

Another time, working yurchenkos on vault, I did the RO and bailed on the handspring, thinking that I had missed the springboard. In fact, I hit the spring board perfectly and flew over the table and into the pit. It was fun.

Funnily enough, the yurchenkos at my gym do that as a timer before doing their handsprings.

Different gymnasts from our team over the years:
1. At YMCA Nationals, Old Level 5 ... Gymnast split the beam (HARD) in her competition routine ... first ever fall in competition for her. Still placed 3rd on beam and 1st All Around.

2. Gymnast was competing on bars (regular meet) ... flew off bars on her kip. Got back to it. On high bar, she went to do her clear hip and flew over the bar, managed to grab the bar with one hand then got the other hand on as she was swinging under the bar, and went directly to her flyaway. Saluted the judge then ran to the restroom to clean up the rip she got in the process of saving herself.

3. Gymnast ran into the vault table so hard it moved about 6 inches, spraining her ankle in the process.

4. Xcel Gold on beam in competition ... got "stuck" in her full turn and ended up doing a double turn, getting dizzy, and falling off beam.

5. Old Level 4 was on beam in competition doing her dismount. In practice, coach would stand there and help if they started to fall the wrong way by pushing them back to vertical so they could twist and land on the correct side. The gymnast forgot that the coach wasn't standing there during her competition routine (because she was usually really good at her dismount). She started falling to the wrong side, but stayed tight expecting the coach to catch her. Her toes hit the mat before she realized that the coach wasn't going to catch her.

6. Level 8 training straddle cut catch hit both calves on the bar and flipped backwards, landing on the mat sitting in straddle with a wth expression on her face.
