How many days off is OK to you before an optional meet? As an Example; We have a travel meet. Some of the team competes Friday and some Saturday. The coaches are leaving Thursday so they will be there and ready for an early Friday am session. The girls who compete Saturday won't practice Thursday or Friday because the coaches are gone to the meet.

Is this how your gym handles it? Does one of the coaches usually stay back and work with the girls who compete later? Or does it not really matter?

a couple coaches will stay behind most often. Very occasionally, they will just cancel practice. If the top level coaches are not going to be a practice, dd usually won't go on Friday or otherwise, she works the routines and leaves early. Really depends on how her Thursday practice went. If it was great, she would rather skip on Friday. If ahead a rough time with skills, she works those.

Usually the whole optional team leaves at the same time for a travel meet, so typically one group isn't staying behind an extra day or two. But this weekend, for example, we have a meet in town--our 7s are Friday morning, 8s Friday evening and 10s Saturday. In this case, we have other coaches doing practice with the 7s Saturday morning while the 10s compete with the main coaches. And the 10s will have the two main coaches Friday night while the 8s compete with other coaches. (yes, the 10s always get the main coaches).

Currently, we have 2 coaches that travel and 2 that stay behind. We also have another person who is available to assist with practice for the compulsory girls on Fridays (part time). So, there's always someone there to supervise our optional girls who compete later in the weekend.
