What's going on at Royal Gymnastics in Northern California? They seem to producing what looks like future olympians in large numbers! They appear to be only less than 10 years old and every girl in optionals is dominating and their form is impeccable. Kudos to the magic... any idea the style of coaching where the owner / coaches came from... and are they considering expanding this coaching to other cities?! wow!

Did you see them at Vegas?

Caveat that this is not to discount the athletes’ hard work or the coaching at all, but I have thoughts:

This is not a gym where anyone van have a shot at DP. From what I understand, they have really strict requirements about moving through compulsories and on to optionals, so their gymnasts are more hand-picked than the vast majority of gyms. They repeat many girls at 3 or 4 until they get 38s, and lose more girls after level 4 than the average gym. Lots of half-day or homeschoolers. Super productive environment for fast-tracked, future Hopes or Elites, but I’m guessing their optionals athletes have a level of above-average talent even among their peers and would have succeeded at any gym. It seems like Melia O’Quinn has attracted in a lot of upper optionals from other gyms in the past 2-3 years but they have homegrown 6s and 7s and some baby upper optionals.

It will be interesting to see if they can sustain their success with their homegrown athletes at the elite level.

Sounds a bit like the MG elite model

I wound say Airborne is the strongest gym in the area - with several other strong programs. Stiff competition does push everyone to be better.

Waiting to see what Ty's dad has to say....

I used to be a competitive gymnast for many many years. About 4 years ago I left and switched to a different gym. They do produce amazing gymnasts but no one sees the behind-the-scenes. Most of their older competitive girls are homeschooled due to their practice hours. They practice nonstop which leads to very little school time. The coaches are very rude. When I was at this gym my friend who was in a different group got a new skill and I was cheering for her. The head coach pulled me over and started yelling at me and told me I was being rude and told me I said "That wasn't even that good" (I never said any of this). I told her I never said that but yet she didn't belive me and told me I would be conditioning every day for 2 months. I went home that practice crying to my mom and my mom went in and talked to the head coach and the head coach said to my mom "I don't care, I don't believe you are your daughter, maybe you should teach your daughter manners." They may produce good gymnasts but is it worth it? In my opinion no. You can go to a different gym with coaches who are much nicer and don't require the athlete to homeschool.

Thank you for taking the time to inform us that you have nothing to add. Had you simply not said anything, we might not have noticed, so it's good that you made two posts to let us know you had nothing to contribute.

Your lack of contribution has been noted by all.
