I’m a gymnastics parent and, like many others, I always try to record my child’s routines at meets — and honestly, they rarely turn out great 😅

Between blocked views, shaky footage, people walking in front, or trying to film while also just watching the routine, it’s hit-or-miss at best.

It got me thinking, and I wanted to get some honest feedback from other parents here, as I started to talk to our gym so that they can organize video recording

If meets offered the option (opt-in only) to purchase professionally recorded videos (and photos) of your child’s routines, using dedicated cameras placed near each apparatus, would that be something you’d be interested in?

The general idea would be:
  • Opt-in only
  • High-quality video (e.g. 4K) & photos
  • Available shortly after the competition
I’m not trying to sell anything — just genuinely curious how other parents feel about this idea, what concerns you might have, or what would make it worthwhile (or not).

Would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks!

I would if it was better than I could film. I quite like the overall view I get of the floor filming from stands (most comps we go to have stadium-type seating so people walking in front isn’t a big issue) but it’s rare that I can get bars or vault from the right angle or beam up close.

There are always professional sports photographers (still photos only) at our state championships, and they sell either individual photos, or a package of every photo containing your gymnast, and I’ve bought at least four full packages over the years. Occasionally GymNSW films routines for its social media, and I love it when my kid ends up in one of those, because they definitely get great up-close footage.
