Does anyone think that stirrup pants worn in men's gymnastics look a bit dated and old fashioned now? Shouldn't they at least have the option of wearing shorts on all apparatus as they have for floor and vault? They seem to be worn for 'tradition' rather than practicality.

Actually, the pants on the pommel horse serve a very distinct purpose. It allows the gymnast to slide across the horse if they hit it. I think the same can be said about p-bars, but not to the same degree. I know my son will only wear pants on horse even in practice, as it prevents horse "bites".

I would be interested in seeing if new uniforms could be figured out... however... I'm not sure how that process would work. You would almost need to open it up for a couple of years and just see what happens... could develop a cool new style of uniforms... or could be a total train wreck.
