DD's L4 bars look good- almost perfect (can there really ever be "perfect' in gymnastics... in life in general- ha!) she's got the skills down and looking good, she's got the form, it all looks good except for the dismount. It's frustrating her to no end. She "gets" it- knows what to do but when it comes to execution she slows down and either gets little to no flight or flies but doesn't stick the landing-- lands on her butt. She has done some private lessons, still can't quite get it all together.

What's the deduction for L4 bars landing on butt but having good form in air vs. not as good form, slower dismount, not much flight but landing on feet. Is it better to try and end up landing on your butt or not try as hard and land on feet? I realize it would be easier with video- but don't post things like videos on public forums. What's the deduction for landing on your butt on a L4 bars dismount? Is it the full value of the skill?

If she lands on her butt without landing on her feet she will lose up to the value of the skill (.8) and .5 for the fall. If she hits her feet first and then falls she'll lose .5 for the fall.

There would be execution deductions associated with both of these scenarios.

As a judge I would prefer to see a good dismount, which has a hard time landing, over a bad dismount with an easy landing...assuming the landings are safe and not putting the athlete in danger. However, we are talking about L4 and these routines all tend to work themselves out as the season goes along and the athlete continues to develop.
