Parents How do you become a judge?

Hello, I have 3 little girls who are in gymnastics, I absolutely LOVE the sport so much. I used to be a gymnast myself but never competed. Anyway, a dream job of mine would be to become a judge someday. Does anyone know the steps on what I would need to do to accomplish this? I did some...

    WAG Judges pay

I was wondering what do judges get paid per meet? Seems to me there are pretty much the same ones all over our region, and they do a good job.

WAG Judges, Somebody... Level 7 Beam Turn question

Ok. One of our Level 7s wants to do a pivot left, pivot right in tuck stand. She wants to know if it is an A or B. I looked and can't find anything remotely similar in the code of points. She has a meet Saturday and needs to know if this will satisfy the B skill in case she falls on her jump...

WAG More than one judging table on one event..who to salute?

I just have a quick question. Many are thinking, impossible for me, I know..lol But some meets we go to there are two judges tables on floor. Some both judges sit at the same table. When there are two tables..who do they salute when they are done? Do they salute both judges..either judge..the...

WAG What is the deduction for not saluting the judges?

So, DD had her 1st meet, and had to compete first on everything since she is the youngest. On floor, she forgot to salute the judges at the end of her floor routine (and was confused at vault too). Anyway, her coach said she lost an entire point for not saluting the judges. Is that true? It...

    MAG Coach as the judge

We have a meet on Friday and our coach is the floor judge. She has told the boys and scored their routines several times in practice. I don't have a problem with this because I know her well, but would you have a problem with a competitors coach as a judge??

    Judging courses

I'm now a category 3 judge on all events (which means I can judge levels 1-7 all legitimate-like), & taking my cat 2 on tumbling soon. *feels slightly smug* *trips over professional shoes* *feels less smug* carry on, carry on...

    WAG Judge's Cup?

Not sure this is really a need to vent. More of I am curious :). DD10's first meet is the Judge's Cup in two weeks. My DD10 is SO excited to get this season started. She feels really good about her skills this year compared to this time last year. My question is really for next year. At...

    Parents Online Judging sites?

Hello All, As the competition season nears, we found a site that offers evaluations on videotaped routines so we were wondering whether or not anybody has any experience utilizing such a service? Our current gym does not have mock meets so we were curious about having some of our daughter's...

WAG Looking for a Judge for Intra-Squad Meet -- Chicago, Illinois

Hi, We are looking for a local judge to come and "judge" an Intra-squad meet and give the girls some feedback before their first real meet (last weekend of November). Does anyone know or have a contact for a judge in Illinois? I sent a message to the contact listed on the Illinois National...

WAG First level 4 meet of the season (actually - ever!). Judges Cup.

Hi! Can I post this here nowadays? :) It's been awhile since I've posted, but I thought I'd comment on DD's first L4 meet, especially after she's struggled so much this past year (thanks for letting me lean on you all here). In discussions before the meet (due to DD's nerves) DD decided on a...

has anyone ever wondered this about judges?

i have always wondered that olympians like nastia luikin, shawn johnson, jordan weiber, gabby douglas etc. when they were young and competed level 5/6/7/8, do you think the judges would think "oh shes going to the olympics one day" i mean, honestly. those are talented girls and i know bela...

Unfair gymnastics. Don't the judges catch on?

I am curious about something I have experienced this year. For t&t I competed level 9 again and this year I noticed a lot of girls not doing their required skills, often opting for harder skills with more DD, but the issue is those are skills you are required to perform at the level, and in t&t...

    Australian ndp 1 judging question

Hi, I have returned to the sport of gymnastics with my daughters after a long absence, they have jus been in their first few competitions and I am struggling to understand why they are scoring so low on floor. I think I understand about the D and E scores, but they scored 11.55 and 11.15. Their...

    Young Judges?

Hi I'm 15 and I'm really interested in judging gymnastics, but I know I'm obviously too young to be an official judge. Does anyone know about any sort of program where they let kids my age actually judge at a gymnastics meet? After training how to of course. Thanks!

    Judging Questions

Since my coaching options are currently very limited, I've looked a little into judging the compulsory levels. I figured knowing another aspect of the sport could be helpful when I actually get back to coaching at a USAG program. However, for the last year-ish I've been dragging my feet because...

Excited by her accompishments but trying to better understand judging

http://youtu.be/_4MMA6U8IHU My dd is a first year level 4 7 years old. As a new parent to the sport, I am more then very pleased with her coach and gym. She seems to continually make large progressions in all her events but floor. Through 6 meets this year, she stays between a 8.9 to 9.225...

Hitting your feet / Bar judging?

So, I'm currently in level 8, and it seems that the most important thing right now on bars to my coaches is whether or not we hold my feet. In their defense, my teammates and I do drag our feet a lot, but how important is the pirouette in a level 8 routine? How big of a deduction is it to hit...

Technical video question for coaches/judges/techies (Level 3 Vault)

My daughter is a very good vault competitor, but she seems to be stuck in the 9.45 and 9.50 range on her scores. I took some video from various angles this weekend of her vaulting to analyze. These nine vaults are very representative of her normal vaults and I slowed them down to 1/8 speed. The...
