    WAG L4 bars - half-turn dismount - R x L?

So my daughter is a righty gymnast, but when she does this dismount, she turns to the left (meaning, her left hand stays on the bar, her right hand goes off and taps). I watched a few youtube videos and it looks like that the righty gymnasts always turn to the right (makes sense as their right...

Parents Scoring: Level 4 vs. Level 5

My DD is about to start her competitive season as a new level 5. She did well last year, but other parents at the gym are telling me to expect lower scores this year because they believe that the scoring at level 5 is much more stringent than that of level 4. I am a bit nervous because the coach...

WAG Is there a chance of L4 this season?

All my little ones are totally ready for L4 this season. But about the 6 of the 9 girls don't have their straight arm back extension roll on floor yet! They can always roll into pike and mostly to push-ups position. But they can't do handstand yet.... HC won't let them compete if they don' I...

    WAG Level 4 beam question

I don't know how it is called... Cross step? The steps that a gymnast takes after split jump/straight jump. I watched some youtube videos and noticed that 'righty' girls take the first step with their right leg, then cross behind with their left leg. However our L4 girls were taught just the...

    Parents Level 4/5 social group

Just a heads up that non-active members were deleted from the group. If you were one of them and still do want to participate, please re-apply to join but be aware that we will be weeding out non-participants periodically. :) there may have been a couple of people that were accidentally...

WAG Level 4 floor question for coaches

At practice last night I overheard coach & HC discussing DD, and relating to being lefty/righty. On the way home, DD mentioned that she may have to work on her BWO on the other leg for the floor routine. (but she wasn't sure exactly what was said, or it if was definite). I emailed HC and...

    WAG Tap Swings L4

How do you get them to keep their legs closed on the turn in the dismount? She says she can't keep her legs/feet together because it helps to do the turn .

    Nervous for Level 4 meet!

I am so nervous for my first Level 4 meet. I'm nervous I won't make my kip/squat on bars, or my cartwheel on beam. Also, forgetting my routines and my vault. And it's an new level and new routines (especially vault.) I competed in the new Level 2, by the time that season ended I jumped to L4. My...

    WAG Level 4 beam question

Does anyone know if after the handstand in the beam routine, and then the leg swiftly kicks up and back; does the kicking foot then join the other in releve without any steps, or can the gymnast take a small step in releve before the half turn? One coach says it's fine to take a small step in...

Coaches Level 4 beam mount bonus

I am an AUS coach so I don't know what the terms are in the US for this skill, but we call it a tuck through to pike hold or a squat through to pike. It is a mount on beam that my gymnasts are competing this year. Many of the girls are having trouble not touching the beam with their feet on the...

Parents Social Groups "New L4/5…" vs. "JO Compulsory..."

Hiya- So, Im confused about the difference between these two groups. I see the New L4/5 says its for parents AND gymnasts and that JO Compulsory is just parents. Aside from that, how do I differentiate the two, please? Thanks!

WAG ISO level 4 lefty floor video

Does anyone have a video of a lefty doing a decent level four floor routine? My DD asked to watch one before competing this Sunday but the USAG video is a righty and she'd prefer to watch a lefty. I'd much appreciate it if someone has a video they don't mind sharing. Feel free to reply here...

Coaches Level 4 Floor Straddle Jump

I was reading the text yesterday and it seemed to indicate that the legs should be straddled at a down angle (like a straight jump with legs apart), but then later it seemed to indicate it should be a straddle pike (with knees turned up). Can anyone clarify? Thank you!

    WAG LVL 4/LVL 5 Vault

DD is almost done with her first LVL 4 season. My DD and the rest of her team lag behind the rest of the field on vault scores. Scores ranges in the sevens and eights across the board. I think I have seen 1-2 9s this season across the team. The optional team seems to be vaulting in line with...

WAG DD can't do Level 4 bars anymore?!

My younger DD, 9, competed Level 4 this year but trains with our optionals. She is on Tops and is being "fast tracked". She is expected to score out of Level 5 and 6 this summer and compete 7 next fall. She has her Level 7 skills. I found out from her coach recently to expect her to not do well...

Should I be moved up to level 4?

Should I move up to the new level 4 (old level 5 )? Here are my skills: Back extension, front handspring, round-off double back handspring, kip on low and high bar, squat-on, back hip to underswing and 1\2 turn dismount on high bar, cartwheel on beam, handstand on beam, and the 1\4 turn...

WAG What percent of Level 4's stay with the sport until graduation?

I have been reading a lot of aspiring young gymnast/parents posts about elite intentions. These posts made me wonder about longevity. I also know this will be a very unscientific question, just looking for your opinions from your experience. Coaches/Parents: What percent of your level 4 team...

WAG 10 year old level 4

I am wondering; what are the chances of my DD, who is a 10 year old level four, ever making it to collegiate gymnastics? She does beautiful routines and averages 36 AA, but is just short of the free hip on bars to compete level 5. When I read on here about 10 year old level 9's, I feel like...

    WAG Interesting situation level4/level7

During conversation with a parent at a recent meet, she brought up something that never crossed my mind as a possibility. At her DD's gym, they recently moved up a couple level 4's to level 7. The girls competed one last level 4 meet and the following meet they competed level 7. One girl...
