Seems to be quite a few posts recently about fast tracking, skipping levels, switching gyms, pushing for advancements...
I think some (especially new) gym parents may assume this the norm.
But I think most gymnasts follow a pretty "boring" path.

What was the path of your child?

My daughter is a 9yr old Gold

2 yrs baby class (1-2yrs)
1 year toddler class (3yrs)
1 year advanced toddler class (4yrs)
1 year pre-team (5yrs)
1 year Bronze (6yrs)
1 year Silver (covid year) (7yrs)
1 year Level 3 (8yrs)
This year Gold/Level 4 (9yrs) (our first year golds also work to score out of 4)
Goals? Totally up in the air. After this year, she could stay gold, or go platinum or 5/JD Path. Really is going to depend on how she does, how she feels, and what she's ready for. For me, I'm just here to pay lol.
I had 3 girls-all started at the same time-
DD 1- age 8 pre-team
Age 9 level 5 & level 6 score out
Age 10 level 7
Age 11 level 8
Age 12 level 9
Age 13 level 10 for 3 years
Very successful but too much pressure when she started getting recruited and was having eating disorder issues. Moved on and became a successful pole vaulter and runner. High level of academic success

DD2 age 9 preteam
Age 10 level 5
Age 11 level 6/7
Age 12 level 8
Age 13 level 9
Age 14 heading to 10 but had so many injuries and illnesses
Went into high school and pole vaulted, dance team and track.High level academic success
DD3 age 6 pre-team
Age 7 level 5
Age 8 -level 5 again
Age 9 level 6/7
Age 10 level 8
Age 10 level 9
Age 11 training 10 and had a serious back injury that lead to moving on to running, pole vaulting and dance team. High level of academic success. Also coached gymnastics and choreographed floor routine.
Take aways-depends on the goal of the gymnast as to plans of how to move forward. My girls competed at a time when level 5 was the 1st level with 4 coming in soon after. Their goals were college gym but a lot can happen in between. They all were talented enough to do college gym but got side lined one way or another which is very common. The reason I mentioned academic success is because we never would have allowed sports to become more important than academics. I was taken out of school early every day to do elite gymnastics training at age 10 and I payed dearly for that later on in life. The girls don’t regret their gymnastics but I do. Of course there were some good things but overall I would never do it again. HS sports were far less stressful, far less expensive and overall more rewarding. My son did middle school and HS track and XC and was just as successful as they were with FAR less stress and cost than gymnastics. This is just our story-take the vacations, go to the b-day parties and dances. It’s all over before you know it and there is far more to life than gymnastics. VERY few become elite or get college scholarships. Don’t let the sport completely take over your families life😊
