We've all watched gymnastics on TV/youtube, yeah? And there are cliches we never want to hear again. Or every once in a while there are comments that are actually insightful & memorable. Which ones stick in your mind?

"She is really showing her personality in this routine!"
and
"The beam is only 4 inches wide"
and
"You've got to stick that dismount"

are three of my 'favorites' (the dismount one especially. the rest of the routine is obviously worth so much more and gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah)

*This post inspired by my watching of 4 or 5 NCAA Super Six championships on youtube in the past few days*

That was huge! I also love anything the English narrators say just because of the different terminology..."this last tumble has got to be the hardest!"

I agree with Mack... After getting to watch this year's worlds with the British commentators, I don't think I can go back to Tim Daggett and Elfi Schlagel (sp). I just love hearing the different terminology... catcher sounds so much better than release move doesn't it? And the free cartwheel... love it!

I love how Tim and Elfi always end up "jinxing" which ever gymnast they are commentating on. They will go on and on how "rock solid" they are and how they are so consistent, and then the gymnast will have the most uncharacteristic bobble or fall. Never fails!!

I think they are probably saying Tkatchev rather than catcher as that is not a term I've ever heard or used - we still use 'release move' or flight on same bar. ;)

Overall, I think the British commentators are so much more unbiased and classy in their commentaries.

When I was watching Worlds 2011, I was turned off by the fact that the American commentators kept bashing one of the Chinese gymnasts. This particular gymnast messed up a few times, and after her bar routine, the female commentator said something like "I don't know why she's smiling, she isn't doing well at all." Did anyone else catch this? And (I wish I remember the names) the female commentator wouldn't really let it go - kepy saying she didn't understand how the gymnast and coaches would be "happy" with that kind of routine, etc. etc....

I'd like to somehow let her know that it is Asian culture to smile when they are upset or embarrassed... especially in public. It's a concept called "saving face." I wish she'd stop making comments like that. IMHO.

I'd much rather listen to the British commentators than the American ones.

I find Tim and Elfie to be MEAN. Once they said a Russian gymnast was untalented and I was like "OMG. This is the Olympics. Of course she's talented!"
