Women Horseshoe vault mat construction question

Sorry for the random title, I wanted to draw in anybody who has ever gotten all up in the inside of one of the mats they use around the springboard for yuchenkos.

If it has a thin piece of wood inside, is that piece of wood supposed to be in one piece or three pieces? Because we assumed ours was in three pieces intentionally because it's cut in the exact same place on both sides pretty cleanly, but the more I attempt to patch this one up the more I question whether it's supposed to be that way.

Since some of the Vault Board Safety Zone Mats actually come in 3 pieces, I am going to guess that it is fine for the wood to be in 3 pieces.

Yes, I think you're right. I think it is just old enough that the edges of the wood cuts have worn down. Thanks
