Sadly, so many dont. At out gym alone 4 quit over summer, which is when a higher percentage of girls quit as it is....and all were either 13 or newly 14.....it sucks.
Sounds familiar. :(
 
There are a bunch of factors that influence them at that age. Puberty, School work increases, Option to compete in sports at the school level. And they realize how much social life they are missing. Every girl is different.

We lost three middle schoolers this year. Their schools have dive teams. All three are doing varsity diving (because of course with their gym experience they segued quite easily to diving). They love still being able to compete. And thy love they be a part of a sport with less training hours. And its seasonal. So while they still train off season, it is much lower hours. All the kids are very much at peace with their decisions and it was their decision to make. I think the parents had a harder time then the kids.
