Who is on your USA women's team now?

I think pretty much any of the top 6 girls last night could win the AA at Rio, they are that good. SO why bother with specialists? Madisons bars is almost as good as Ashtons, and she can step in for vault and floor and beam too. Tough for Ashton, but when you have such strong all rounders it is really hard to leave home the world bars champ for a specialist who scores .3 higher in the US. Ashton has yet to be scored internationally, she may not do as well.

Also this weekend Laurie beat Gabby, so she might be in the AA spot instead of Gabby, it will be interesting to see how that plays out at trials. I also think that Laurie will be a real crowd pleaser like Simone, that always leaves a good impression on the judges. Unless Gabby turns her spark back on I do not see the crowd loving her the way they did.
Ashton won UB at Jesolo this year and was on the Worlds team in 2014, where she outscored Kocian.

My team: Simone, Aly, Hernandez, Kocian and if Maggie Nichols can get it together, her...if not , Douglas....Marta has commented that Douglas has "done worse with every meet she has competed AA and needs to have less distractions"...not a rousing endorsement, and in most team make ups, she is listed as only doing bars , and we have Hernandez, Kocian and Simone who can fill that hole ( as Gaby's consistency hasn't been there...)

There's no way I put Skinner on any Olympic team ever...I don't care how many vaults she has, Simone can compete in the vault finals so the "need" for her is zip.

I put in Kocian over Locklear because they score in the same range for bars ( 15.6-7) and beam and Kocian has the added benefit of competing in the AA just recently and finished less than a point behind Douglas on both days!! Marta has said that although they name "alternates" after the experience USAG had when Morgan White had to be replaced way back when ( the injured athlete has to be removed from the village ASAP before the new one can come in) , that she would never have the athletes go through that again and strives to have girls on the team who can fill in....hence Kocian..
But Martha put Sacramone on many teams after the Morgan White experience.

But why bring Douglas if she isn't going to do UB? What events do you have her doing?

"I" am bringing Douglas, because I doubt Marta will drop her from the team. As to what she competes, I do not really care for her at all right now, she shows no team spirit and no enthusiasm for the process. In reality I would prefer "my" Olympic team was full of team players who are supportive of each other and are clearly motivated by the opportunity they have been given.

Sacramone on the Bejing team wasn't an alternate, and after she fell in Bejing, that seemed like the kiss of death for making London...the Morgan White "experience" was that they had to get her out of the athlete village after she broke her foot and off the property before Tasha Swikert could be brought in so she couldn't even stay with her team and Marta felt that that was so traumatic to all the girls that she vowed it wouldn't happen again... so she prefers to bring team members that can fill holes ( i.e. Kocian) without having to send someone off property to bring in an alternate (which if Locklear is named, you just might have to do for vault or floor) .

I agree on the team spirit. I saw Aly say at the end as she was waiting for her final beam score to Laurie that they should just have the same score. And I felt like she was not just wanting to win. She made it feel like this was for the team and everyone was just trying their best. I actually love her sportmanship.

I love Aly for her team spirit, I hope she is made captain. She is mature, supportive and very kind. She has previous O experience too. She is a team player.

And as annoying Tim's graphic showed 47 times over the weekend, that was Gabby's best fit. The idea at the end though when he said her stock was "up" was comical. Back to back 58.9 is nothing to write home about. Only 1.35 ahead of Kocian who only vaulted a full? That's disappointing.

This was my point on Douglas even being needed....Kocian hasn't even competed the AA since 2013 and in the 1 meet since she resumed the AA, she is only 1.35 behind Gaby, the reigning Olympic AA champ, with just a full....evidently Kocian got the memo that you needed to UP your game to make the Olympics versus whatever the heck Douglas seems to be doing....

I also hear that Maddy has her DTY back but it's still too soon after her fracture to be competition consistent. Her other events are legit enough to be 5th all around 2 days in a row. I'm a Maddy fan though so I might not be a fair judge.

Need to heap some more praise on Aly, didn't get enough out. She is everyone's friend, mother hen, hardest worker in the gym and, most importanly, rock-solid-you-can-count-on-me-to-hit competitor rolled into one. I know, I know, if only that split could get a little bigger and knees a little tighter...

1) Simone
2) Aly
3) Laurie
4) Gabby - I'm not really feeling her, but we know she is on the team.
5) Madison or Ashton

Let Aly, Laurie, and Gabby battle it out until the day of regarding who sits bars in qualification.

I love seeing all the different dream teams! Just shows how stacked team USA really is!! In a perfect world, mine would be:
Simone
Laurie
Aly
Maggie
Madison

Unfortunately, I don't think Maggie will be ready so gabby will probably be in. She is definitely lacking & it's hard for me to cheer her on right now.

I've always loved Madison and since she won gold at worlds, I don't see how she can be left off. Ashton is not beating Madison by enough for them to chose her!

So looking forward to trials in a few weeks!!!

Gabby seems to have totally lost heart. I'm really wondering if she even wants to compete anymore or if she's still in gymnastics because her family needs her to be for the income and she feels obligated. And if you don't want to be there and your heart is not in it, give someone who cares a chance at an Olympic medal. Just my opinion.

I do think Aly deserves to go as well as Simone. I'd like to see Lauren go as well. Beyond that, I dunno. Will be an interesting trials!
