No 2012-2013 Move Ups Because of 2013 Routine Changes???

Doesn't make any sense... besides levels 9 and 10 won't really change at all... and the other levels aren't actually changing - just the names of the levels are being shifted... you could call them red, blue, green for that matter... it won't matter!

Does your gym have video capabilities for training help?

We do have several tvs and video cameras set up on a delay so the gymnasts can watch it. It is great, however, the downside is that often the gymnasts are so concerened about watching it that they spend half of their training time in front of the TV instead of on the BARS!!!

How to deal with the influx

I asking anyone who will give input? I would love to hear anyones perspective and different perspectives. I am not technically an owner anymore, had owned another gym in the past, but have a lot of autonomy in my position as we all do. Any input would be appreciated from anyone

How to deal with the influx

It is a good problem to have, but it is always a balance of keeping those happy that have been loyal customers year after year, and wanting to make room for the new kid. As a program grows, there are growing pains associated and if you get too big, too fast it can be problematic. We have been...

How to deal with the influx

Question for everyone... mostly looking for perspectives from owners or coaches... I work at a gym where we get a lot of local gym transfers... and I mean a lot - like an average of 10 - 15 new team kids each summer from the time one season ends to the time one begins. And regularly... not just...

    Gymnastics in West Virginia

APEX is our home gym and we have many gymnasts from Charles Town... they say it is about 30 minute drive, I believe

    Big changes in PA USAG

While PREP may be nationalized.. Sectionals will be determined by each state... Virginia will still have sectionals at level 4 and 5 ... at least for the time being.... unfortunately

    state title

And some major changes are coming down in Virgina... we just received the state calendar and the level 6/7 and 5 states are almost a month earlier this year which means a very condensed season from Nov/Dec until March... woo hoo... finally!!!! I came from a state that did fall/spring seasons and...

Is there an age limit for USAG?

There is no age limit. We actually have a gymnast who will be a level ten for us next year who just turned twenty...

    USAG Statistics

I know in our gym and in Virginia Prep Op or All Stars in growing like crazy.. this year we had 40 prep opts... next year we will have over 80 with 30 of them being Advanced. It provides a great alternative for a lot of kids.

Question about a facility trying to be all things to everyone. . .

I always maintain that if these people are unhappy with the quality, then they will leave... they do have a choice.

Question about a facility trying to be all things to everyone. . .

I think I know exactly what gym you are referring to as we have gotten about 8 team gymnasts from there since the season ended and this has been a large complaint of theirs. Like anything, if you have competent people running the programs, it could be successful... if not, well?

How to get the word out in Georgia/Florida regarding scam artists coaches/owners

sounds like something that happened years ago relatively close to here and these gym owners now own another gym... scary stuff!

    Wrist Rips

There is a product that our gymnasts use.. it is made for runners for chafing.. I can't remember what it is called, but it comes in a deodorant type stick.. looks like deodorant. They put it on and it is AMAZING!!! Any drug store or running store should have it.

Gymnasts Leaving and Returning - How Common is It?

We rarely have gymnasts leave our program. Sometimes they leave competitive team for All Star Team or Advanced Rec for High School Gymnastics, but while we usually have about 3 or 4 leave each year to these other programs, they almost always stay in our gym, and we inherit about 10 - 12 from...

The Pros and Cons of Privates

VaGymMomma - our level 5 & 6 gymnasts practice 12 hours per week, our level 7 & 8 practice 16 hours and our Level 9 & 10 practice 18 hours.. actually much less than every other gym around us - and we don't do privates for anyone. hope that clarifies

The Pros and Cons of Privates

We have a policy at our gym that we do not do any private lessons. We feel if we can't get it done in 18 hours per week, then we have a coaching problem. We have a very large team program (and looking like it is going to get even larger at the end of the season - our owner can't say no to...

Moving from Level 7 to Level 8

The biggest differences at level 8 are that you now have to have 4 Bs instead of 2. That isn't too big of a deal but if you aren't strong on bars doing at least free hip handstand and giants that would be tough. You do have to have the flight on beam and the double salto on floor, but most kids...
