I have heard some different schools of thought on what type (or size) of swing a Gienger should be initially taught.
Does anyone have any pros or cons for teaching a Gienger from a tap swing...cast...or giant?
When doing cast to handstand, kip cast to handstand, free hip to handstand, giants, etc. on the uneven bars, are you supposed to wrap your thumbs around the bar (in the handstand portion of the skill)?
The coaches at my gym seem to have different opinions about this & I want to know which one...
Minor fracture of the elbow a few weeks ago - no pins, no displacement, or anything truly terrible. She was given the option of no cast, but I insisted, as I know she wouldn't stay off it. Three weeks later, cast is off, and there is some soreness, which doctor said is expected. She's free to...
So today I attempted to do my cast to handstand and giants by myself. Keep in mind that I've done this with a spot since the beginning of summer 2012. I have never in my life done a cast to handstand by myself before tonight. My teammate got her giants the practice before and I got pretty...
I was so excited at our meet yesterday, the photographer actually shot bars! They always do beam & floor so I never get bars or vault & bars is her best event. Just wanted to share her pretty cast!
hi everyone one of my best friends at my gym is a good level 8 who struggles a lot with bars. she mounts the high bar then does an overshoot then kip squat on kip cast free hip layout flyaway. she has been working cast handstands A LOT for almost 2 years now and she can sometimes almost make...
Is there a difference between doing your cast hand stand with completely straight legs vs going up in a straddle? DD is trying/doing them without the straddle. She gets it every once in awhile. Two other girls on her team get them more often but straddle up to them. Is one easier than the...
Well, my munchkins cast came off yesterday. She is so excited to have her hand back. Bath time last night was full of drama as she was worried she may slip and fall. Gotta love 7 year old logic.
Headed to the gym tonight we were thinking she may be really hesitant. It certainly...
My dd does a cast to handstand on bars. but her teammates all do a cast straddle then bring their legs together at the top of the bar, what is the purpose of them doing that? What is the difference?
Hi everyone! This is more to satisfy my curiosity than anything else. My DD is currently on level 4, and I usually ask her what was fun for her after practice. The past few weeks she has said the most fun thing was practicing casts to handstand (with the coach spotting of course). So I guess...
DD has a pretty typical L7 bar routine - kip, squat-on, jump to high bar, kip, cast, free hip, giant, giant layout flyaway. In her coaching evaluation last night, they told her that she would be scoring in the 9s, but her biggest deductions are probably in her high bar cast (she's hitting HS...
So I've been working on cast to handstands for a while, before I retired a few months ago and now on my own at the adult rec class I've been going to. I can do decent preps (cast to bum up in air and legs in straddle at bar height, like the compressed position for a straddle press), but then I...
What do you do? What do you think looks better? What do you like? I used to do everything straight but my coach switched me to straddle giants and casts...
So excited for little dd (7 yr old, Level 5) - when I picked her up from practice she matter-of-fact-ly told me she got her cast handstand! She thought it was cool, but not really a big deal (and not that hard, according to her). I just went along with it. I'm utterly surprised what she...
I was just so excited for DD. She did her cast to handstand last night. She's been kind of afraid to lean over the bar and go for it so this was a big moment for her. Once she had done a few all her fear was gone and she was doing them over and over. So happy for her :D.
Coaches, Which do you prefer? Do you teach your gymnast both? My daughter has been doing straddle cast for for 3-4 years now & now the head coach has decided NO MORE STRADDLE CAST!!! Just wondering why?
So I did giants for the first time yesterday and they were really easy for me..like by the end of the workout I was just getting a light spot on the first one and then doing the second and third on my own. The only problem is the cast before it. I don't have a cast that's even close to a cast...
My level 7 daughter (age 9) likes to hold cast handstands on bars anywhere from 2 seconds to 5. In a meet, if she holds them for 4 or 5 seconds will she get deducted?
