My dd is competing level 6 first time tomorrow with 3 weeks to learn routines :) she looks good excpet when she does her cast on the high bar she is piking a little (like bent at the booty) and she said her coach tells her to pike there but we've watched lots of videos and never see any pikes...
Just out of curiousity, wondering how the height of level 5 bars cast is determined. My dd says that the cast has to be "above minimum" or "above horizontal" and wondering exactly what part of the body (feet, hips, etc) that is.
Not looking to do anything with this info other than to satisfy...
My coach says i am physically strong enough to cast to handstand but I'm too dang scared!Im afraid that my arms will give out causing me to face plant and mess up my neck (silly i know lol).I can do it fine with spot but when it comes to doing it alone i only make it to a little above...
DD did this last night!! I posted a little while back that she was scared of going over on the giants. Well the coach had her start with tuck giants, then raised the bar but still let her do them in tuck, then had her work on them with a tuck and straightening her legs at the bottom, then she...
hi all,
my gymnasts need to be able to do a cast to horizontal (most of them can not)
does anyone have any good drills to improve their casts that they want to share??? please
Thanks =)
My level 6 boys are struggling with high bar, because none of them can get that reverse-grip cast-over to give them enough swing for the next few skills.
So I'm looking for two things:
1) What are some strength exercises that specifically target this movement? Or is there a specific...
Hello to all of you gymnastics-savvy people. I have a question for you regarding a drill my DD did this week.
This week is her gym's compulsory camp. The preteam L3's go during the morning only. Yesterday, her coach worked the entire group of L3/L4 girls together on bars, then the 3's...
some girl on team said she didn't have a drop kip, but then went to do like a cast away, drop down and kip x5. I was like what? is there a difference? also is it possible to do like a straddle long hang kip? lol just wondering.. thanks!
My DD has started uptraining a number of skills for optionals and I'm learning that I have a lot to learn. She learned her straddle cast to HS about a month ago and she just got her cast to HS this week. Are these skills valued differently (A v. B) or used differently (is one a better...
Last year I did cast handstands with my legs together, but bent and I was horribly arched. This year I did straddle cast, but it just looks funny and I usually go over as well (and my legs never really come together).
I was considering going back to normal casts this year, but I was wondering...
This question is from my L7 daughter who wants to know how to correct her slightly bent legs in her straddle cast to handstand. She says she keeps trying and focusing on them but they are still bent. They bend as her hips rise to get into the straddle postion. Once she acheives the straddle they...
I have recently been working really hard on my kip cast to handstand. My kip-casts to vertical are clean and I have no trouble with them, so I've been trying to cast to handstand.
I'm not able to get my toes far enough up with good form! It drives me nuts.
If anyone has any drills or...
Please send the fairies to NYC tomorrow around noon. DD sure could use them. She had a tough practice on bars tonight. Kept going over on her cast to handstand on the high bar and missing her squat on. I tried to lighten the mood and told her at least she got all the bad ones out tonight and...
This question is from my L7 daughter who is trying very hard to ge rid of the bent legs in her cast handstands. She cast and then as she moves into the straddle postion her knees bend until get into the upside down straddle then the straighten out beautifully. Its not something that is...
I was reading on the usa gymnastics web site that for the elite compulsary routines that there is a .5 deduction for straddling up on cast handstands and also for straddling up on front giants. Why don't they want to see this. I have seen elites like Bridget Sloan do this. And of course this...
DD's team is really struggling with getting a cast out of their front hip circles. They all have the front hip, but are coming out of them with bent arms. I assist their coach 1x/wk - any suggestions?
Also - what are the possible deductions for having a small, or non-existent, cast after FHC...
Hi,
I'm struggling to get my gymnasts to cast to handstand at the moment - they are just beginning however, so I know I have to be patient
I thought it would be helpful for me and others if you could post your top 5 tips for getting that handstand, as I'm currently struggling for ideas!
I've...
So I've been working with a bunch of my level 6.5-ish girls on layout flyaways from a cast, and I've been pretty successful with most of them; however, I have one girl who is very talented but older (14) and built pretty solidly -- ie, she's too big for me to dependably manipulate her in the...
whenever i do my front hip circle, i can never cast out of it ( sometimes, but not very high.) My coach said i had to cast to horizontal or higher out of the front hip circle. What am i doing wrong that doesnt let me get a cast out of it?
I was wondering if a straight, legs-together cast is preferable to a straddle-up cast in a level 9 or level 10 uneven bars routine. What do most gymnasts do? What do coaches and judges prefer to see?
