Hi my little girl has been trying to get her Kip for the longest time and I am at a loss as to what to tell her that will help... she just can’t get on top of the bar at the end and her hips push away from the bar...any suggestions?
Need reassurance...6 year old was put on level 4 team. Has been training for about 1.5 months and no kip yet. They will make permanent level decisions come June so hoping she gets it by then, but still no garentees. I just don’t want her in a situation where she feels pressure to get a skill...
My daughter got her kip a year ago. When doing her kip, she doesn’t really glide and extend her body out before bringing her toes to the bar. She almost stays in a V shape when going the kip. She does the rest of her kip beautifully.
Does anyone explain why some children do their kip this way...
DD has had grips for many years -but still doesn't have her kip despite working on this skill for 4 years. I know it's uncommon to get grips before having the skill but unfortunately one of DD's previous coaches did not agree with this. DD has not given up the grips because she says her hands...
I am applying to study sports science in university and one of many skills they often test the applicants on in the entrance exam is a kip. I have never even touched a proper set of bars and my skills are limited to a pullover and (very ugly) front and back hip circle that I have learned on...
My daughter got her kip yesterday!!! She was so excited to tell me!
For weeks all I have heard after every practice is "MOM I'm SO close!".
I'm like okayyyyy lol!
I want to see it so bad! I'm going to try to sneak a peak at practice today.
This is on her first year on team.
Her gym competes...
Does the choice of straddle or pike for the glide kip mean anything at all--for example, does it signal whether the kid will find straddle or straight cast handstand easier?
Hi all,
My DD has done rec gymnastics on and off for a few years. She recently moved to a new gym and was put on level 3 preteam and after about 4 months was moved to xcel silver.
The eventually decided to have her compete at gold.
Being new to all of this I thought she "had" her kip and...
Not sure if either are great, but my dd just finished her first comp season (level 3) and is super excited to be training level 4 skills.
Are either of these useful? We have a metal bar on the side of our play structure that is about the right height that she could use the kip trainer. And she...
My daughter has state coming up in the next week or so where she will be competing Level 3. She has pretty recently gotten her kip without grips (got it first with grips). I think it's pretty decent but not perfect by any means- and she still misses it completely some of the time. Coach...
Just wanted to share that my DD got her kip yesterday. She's super excited and does it on the high bar too. It certainly still needs work before adding it in to a L3 routine but she can do it and get up onto the bars. Yay!
(Sorry, accidentally posted twice. Trying to remove the other one.)

Wahoo, I don't want to speak too soon but it looks like the kip fairy has finally visited my dd:-)! She first got her kip in November, lost it, got it back in February, got grips in March, lost it again, and has been muscling up on a pretty sketchy kip ever since. In early June she worked...
My DD made her kip for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I was surprised because they had only been working kip drills a little bit. Since then she has made her kip about 3 or 4 times without a spot. She always makes it with a spot. My question is how long does it take to get a kip...
So, i'm getting my kip on low bar more and more consistent and i want to work kips on high bar. Is there a difference between how a low bar and high bar kip should be performed?
