Lower Scores for Messy Hair?

Bridget's doesn't really bother me. This used to be a big controversy with Alicia Sacramone's hair too. But those styles look "gymnastics-y" enough to me, what bothers me is when the ponytail is too long or not high enough, and the hair is hanging on the neck (like a long braid would).

I guess I was wrong. I see Raisman sported a bit of a scruffy do at Pac Rim too:

It had previously struck me how Alicia wore the messy bun a Nationals, but a plain ponytail at worlds. With Weiber too, when she first came on the national scene she wore the bun with a huge scrunchy, but when she started competing internationally, it was a plain pony.

I actually kinda like Bridget's, and while it does look a little messy, you can see that she spent more time on it with the parts and stuff than the other girls who just sprayed some hairspray. I think as long as the gymnast doesn't have a total bedhead it's fine; and to the original poster I'm sure your DD's hair was NOT the difference between 1st and 2nd.
