Women Norah Flatley retires from Elite

This had to be a tough decision to retire from Elite, but thankfully she can continue out her career as a L10 and then move on to NCAA:

There are a handful of us on the CB who are Norah Flatley fans, and this inspiring young lady - a true beam queen! - has brought so much to the sport. Her goal was the '16 Games, but that wasn't meant to be. She was going to give Elite one more go, but that wasn't meant to be as well.

Now she has new opportunities to give back to the sport, and many more years (hopefully) of competition. If you don't know her, keep a look out for her! Go Norah!!

Yes, she is an inspiration to many. She had a great elite run and accomplished much. So many unfortunately timed injuries got in her way, but she showed incredible perseverance throughout her elite career.
I think competing against her in level 10 next year might be slightly intimidating for some.[emoji846]

We are big Norah Flatley fans and loved watching her when she was able to compete. It's too bad that she was out for so long with injuries but I'm glad we will get to watch her as part of the UCLA team.

Does anyone have statistics on how many elites drop back down to L10?

No stats, but I would say it's common for girls that "test the waters" at elite - try it for a year or two, compete in a Classics or two - to drop back to 10 if they find elite is not for them. It is not common for an elite, like Norah, who is a multiple time National team member and went on International assignments for USA to drop back to 10. Gymnasts at that level generally either retire completely from gym when they are done with elite or just go back to training until it's time for college. Pretty rare to see an elite at that level compete level 10 again.
