    Uneven Bars - Rio Qualifications

Is anyone else nervous about how this is going to play out? My fear is that Laurie will end up getting cut out of the AA race over this. Obviously Simone will be doing AA in quals, and almost certainly Aly as well. That leaves two bar slots, and Gabby + Madison would bring in the highest...

    WAG Secret Classic podium training

Is anyone else watching the podium training live feed? I saw that Simone has a punch barani on beam now! I'm having a little bit of a hard time IDing most of the gymnasts but I'm pretty sure I saw Aly on vault and her DTY didn't look as clean as I expected. Any other observations?

    Level 5-7 Nationals Results

Some of y'all may recall my thread from last year where my younger sister competed at nationals in Spokane: http://www.chalkbucket.com/forums/threads/spokane.46885/ This year we're in Ft. Worth, Tx, which is disappointingly close to home - I would have preferred something more "exotic"...

    WAG When to introduce backbends

I know I've seen threads before about how USAG recommends not introducing backbends before a certain age - I think it was 6. Can anyone supply me with a link to this statement? I haven't been able to find anything on Google.

    WAG Account suspended?

I'm not sure whether this is the right place for this, but when trying to acces ChalkBucket today I got an "account suspended" page several times before it suddenly let me back in. I'm not really sure what was up with that as I haven't posted in a few days and before that not in quite a while...

    Hours for T&T vs artistic

A recent thread on high hours in WAG reminded me of something I've wondered about before. How many hours do competitive T&Ters train as opposed to WAGers? At our gym, everyone level 5 and up trains for 5 hours a week during the school year, which seems insanely low to me compared to WAG. We...

Coaches What's the best way to learn to coach?

Background: I'm currently 19 and in college. I started recreational T&T at 14 and did a year of competitive T&T at 17/18. I started coaching at the same gym at 16 and so now have 3 years experience coaching preschool through level 4 T&T. Question: I am very interested in learning to coach WAG...

Elite Challenge Senior Men's Tumbling Final

In case anyone is interested, I was able to tape the full senior men's tumbling final. Excuse the lousy phone-quality video and editing. It looks better on my phone - YouTube really seemed to downgrade it when I uploaded.

    Spokane!

This Texas girl is in Spokane, WA for level 5-7 nationals! My little sister is a level 6 and when I heard that nationals were in Washington, I told my mom "If she qualifies, I'M GOING". I haven't been out of the south before so this is SO cool to me! Cool literally, too... it's been about 55...

WAG Searching for a beam skill

Has anyone ever done a full twisting layout-step out on beam, or is it just my imagination? I thought that maybe I remembered a clip of Casey Jo Magee messing with one (on a floor beam maybe?) a few years ago when her elite comeback was the next big thing, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone?

Coaches Dealing with crazy gym parents

So I've seen a lot of talk in the parent forum about CGM's, but not much here. What are some of the craziest things you've had parents say/do, and how do you deal with it as a coach? Here are my top two: I had a mom complain to our HC/gym owner that she wanted her daughter moved out of my...

WAG Why no baranis in WAG?

This may have an obvious answer, but I'm not an expert in this area so bear with me. I'm just wondering why baranis (front with a half turn) never really seem to come into play in WAG? The only time I can recall seeing one is an occasional punch barani on beam (Memmel, for example). A couple...

    Just a quick brag...

My 9 year old sister is competing level 6 T&T right now. At her first 2 meets she didn't do so well - she didn't throw her back tuck at the end of her pass at one meet and at the other there were no falls of anything but she didn't get on the podium and came in next to last a lot. She was...

Coaches Funny/embarrassing things your gymnasts have told you?

This was inspired by the thread in the parent's forum on embarrassing things kids do in public. As I can't post over there, but I've heard PLENTY of stuff from the kids I coach, I though I'd start one here! I've coached predominantly preschoolers but have also worked with level 1-3 kids (T&T)...

WAG When the artistry debate isn't really about artistry

Hey all, I've read several interesting threads and blog posts lately on the artistry debate. I'm very interested in all of this even though I don't really know what my opinion on a solution is. Anyways, I don't want this to turn into a "do we need more artistry or should we drop it entirely"...

    WAG Stretching over splits

This question applies to either gymnasts or coaches. For stretching over splits, do you prefer to put something under just the front leg, or both front and back legs so that the gymnast is balancing between 2 raised objects? I feel like it's more common to do it the first way but I've seen...

    Hello world!

Hey guys! I'm totally excited to have been able to join this forum! I love all things gymnastics and I'm happy to have finally found a place to discuss them with other enthusiasts. So, a (longish) bit of background: I remember being 8-10ish and asking my mom for gymnastics lessons. My next...
