what are the main requirement differences for the two levels? Is a BHS required in 6 but not 5?

They are very similar. No, a back handspring is not required for level 6. Most of the girl on my dd's level 6 team do BW. Some do BHS.

There are also L6 that choose to do a cartwheel instead of a BWO or a BHS.
AND in L5, the BHS is an option, or a BWO, or a Back Extension Roll.
