    BHS Stepout and Gaynor BHS

What's the difference between a BHS stepout and a Gaynor BHS? Is a Gaynor more like an airborne back walkover? I always thought it was the same thing.

    Back handspring

So I tried back handspring last night, and was doing pretty good with a large amount of spotting. Trouble is, whenever my coach tried to stop spotting me so much, I would twist off to the side(my last coach said I kept looking off to the side). Any suggestions on how to do it without twisting? I...

    Backhandsprings to Backwalkovers on beam?

Hi all! It seems like with each new fear overcome, another one slips into place in this sport:(. My little girl truly loves beam, but has some major fear issues with the backwalkover to backhandspring series on beam. She can do them seperately without a hitch, but is off again/on again on the...

Two footed landing on bhs on beam?

Do any of you do back handsprings on beam with a two foot landing? I just started doing it at practice yesterday. I like it a lot better. I think its easier. I'm going to probably do back handspring 2 feet connected to backhandspring step out because I need to lunge at the end to stay on the...

    Back Walkover, Back Handspring Connection

Has anyone seen a video of this online? It seems there is a huge deduction for not connecting this on beam. I heard you can't swing your arms either. Would love to see this done perfectly.

    Standing flick (/bhs)

As many of you know i quit gym years ago but went back about 7 months ago. All my skills were still there, except... a standing flick/bhs. I can do a great flick off a roundoff, and with a spot i can do a really good standing flick, but on my own they're rubbish! Occasionally one is ok but 80%...

Do you have to be able to do a split in order to do a back handspring?

Just curious. We've done a few back flips in the gym occasionally. I was wondering, for a beginner, would not being able to do a split/very flexible prevent you from doing a back handspring?

    Coaches Teaching backhandsprings

Hello everyone! My name is Nicole and I'm new to the Chalk Bucket. I joined mainly to get some opinions about how to teach backhandsprings. I was a level 10 gymnast years and years ago and I always learned them with a full arm swing -- up, down past your bottom, and back up again. But the...

    Arched Back Handsprings

Hey all! First time caller, long time listener, One of my gymnasts has a problem with the first part of her BHS. She has a very flexible back, and arches to the point where her fingers nearly touch her heels; not a very strong position, if you ask me. She can perform the skill by herself on...

    Coaches BackHandSpring hand position?

On backhandsprings, should the hands be facing inward (fingers pointing together) or backward? I heard from another coach that it's better for them to point inward to prevent elbow hyperextensions -- is that true? The only time I've ever had my hands pointed inward was on a...

    Coaches crooked bhs

My dd used to have beautiful bhs until the last couple of weeks. She throws her hands back crooked. I think that she is moving her head to see behind her as she jumps back. I think she started doing this because she has been doing them at school and was concerned that there wasn't enough...

    Coaches Back handspring step out?

I posted this on the skills board, but maybe it belongs here. My dd is L6 and her backhandspring step out does not have much leg seperation. She just can't seem to get her legs to split any further. What tips can you give her? She is very flexible so I do not think that is the issue. (I...
