    Front Handsprings and Back Handsprings

I am new at teaching these skills and I was looking for some creative drills to incorporate into my lessons. These drills can involve any floor drills using wedges, mats, traps, or blocks, can also involve tumble tracks, pit mats, and even the pit. THANK YOU!

Keeping legs straight on a BHS on Beam

I have done back handsprings on beam for like 7 years, and i have never been able to keep my legs straight. I can make them be fairly straight, but they are never straight. The back one is worse than the front. Anybody have any suggestions? Also, judges, what do you consider a straight leg...

    Backhandspring on beam troubles

I started learning my backhandspring for beam recently and I am hoping to get it for competition this next year but I am having some problems. My main problem is that instead of jumping back into the handspring I am jumping up too much and therefore undercutting it. I have been working it mostly...

    Crooked back handsprings

Okay, so I *finally* got my back handspring, which I am very happy about. But I've noticed that at some point during the back handspring, I am twisting to the left. I try really hard to keep straight, and I don't feel myself twisting, but apparently I am because if I do them on a tape line I...

    I got my back handspring!

FINALLY! After a zillion pushups and drills I got my standing back handspring on the tumble trak, the trampoline and the floor all in one day!! First I got it on the TT, which was exciting enough. Then I went and tried it on the tramp. And then I went to the floor! I have yet to connect it to a...

    Coaches BHS help please!

So I have two gymnasts that just don't arch in their BHS. I have done the sit jump back to a tight arch on their back onto a porta pit and cheese mat folded up. I have used the resilite rolls and in both of those drills they arch nicely. It's just when we bring them to the cheese mat they jump...

    Coaches Teaching Backhandsprings

I'm currently coaching a group of level 4/5s and most of them are yet to learn a backhandspring. Those who can do them themselves are quite sloppy and I just feel like I keep repeating the same corrections over and over again. I'm not sure if they just aren't looking/thinking about what I tell...

    Round off back handspring

The round off back handspring is the last thing I need for level 4. I'm still doing round off, pause, back handspring with spot. I can/could do it on the trampoline and off the end of the tumble track onto squishy mats. Thing is, every time I make some progress, I lose it! I think if I just...

    Standing Backhandsprings

I know this might sound silly but I can do roundoff backhandsprings easily but my standing bhs stinks. This has been a problem for me forever. I mean even when I was a kid. I can do them but I really want to do one on the beam and it just seems impossible. I can do it a little better out of a...

    Round off BHS BHS...

So at practice the other day dd's team was practicing RO BHS BHS's. Dani really wanted to try it but her coach was a bit hesitant saying that she doesn't have her RO BHS, how can you do two? After Dani kept begging, the coach told her that she will only let her try it if she follows through on...
