Hi!
My friend was a dancer even before gymnastics, and she still is. Since in dance (ballet) you have to keep your back straight, that has caused minimal back flexibility. She needs her back bend before anything else, and she was wondering if there was any way to improve her back flexibility so...
DD has lots of strength, but not so much on flexibility. So her coach gave us a list of stretches and skills to do at home each day. We have been doing them for almost 2 months now and her coach said last week that she can finally start to tell a little bit of improvement. YEAH! I can to. Now my...
So other than the optional levels states are finished with and it's time to get cracking. As we all know strength and flexibility are the two most important ingredients in making an impressive gymnast
So, D is starting to notice decreasing flexibility in his shoulders mainly, but overall really. He has one side splits but not the other. He has his middle splits most of the time, and an oversplit on one side. But his shoulder flexibility is the big one, starting to kill him on rings!
He...
I really want to (and need to) improve my upper back flexibility across my shoulder blades and just under them. My upper back is really un flexible so all of my skills that go through a bridge use a lot of lower back flexibility which can be painful after a while. I have been working on...
Hello Everyone!
As you gymnasts know, in gymnastics you need lots of flexibility and well let's say, I don't have it!
My bridge is HORRIBLE, I can do my right leg split, but not my left or box split. I lack shoulder flexibility and back flexibility, and I really want to improve my flexibility...
I don't have very good shoulder flexibility. My coach has given me drills, but they don't seem to always help. Does anyone have any drills they know that helped you/ your DD/ your teammates/ the kids you coach with this?
Thanks!:)
My six year old is having some upper body flexibility issues. I have read through all the old threads on here, and have talked to her coach for stretches to help. What is odd is that she has good lower body flexibility...I have heard that usually if a person is tight, they are tight everywhere...
So I've always had a really flexible back but lately it hasn't been as easy to do some of the stuff I used to do with it and it kind of hurts. Can you recommend some exercises/skills I can do every day to make sure I don't lose my back flexibility? Thanks!
Hi, I have a 9 yo gymnast who has struggled for a long time with her back flexibility. We have been doing a lot of excercises to help with this problem. Shoulder flex is good now, and hip flex is as well. But she complains and cry's when doing bridges and walkovers (which is getting there, after...
I'll get straight to it :
1. How would one retain, or even improve, shoulder flexibility when working shoulder strength at the same time? - as these two things seem to work against each other.
2. What are some good solo drills to help reach a full pike fold? - the drills I've seen so far just...
Gym/dance coach gave G-DD directions for homework that included stretching and work on her flexibility for 30 minutes per day.
Very non-specific for a L4/6yo kindergartner ?? She thinks sitting in a split, or in a hand-stand while watching Sponge Bob works.
Do you have any ideas on exactly what...
:)Merry Christmas to y'all!!! I hope you're having a great day!
So, as I probably have said a thousand times, I'm now training at a new club, where I'm learning lots of new stuff, and with that comes new doubts.
Ok, lets cut the talking and get down to the questions:
Flexibility:
1-Maybe you...
DD is age 5. She was advanced in her preschool classes and was invited to join our club's preteam program. She started in the summer when she was still 4 and practices 2 days a week for three hours. She seems to love it and has a great time playing with all the girls. At Parent's Day the...
So I quit gymnastics about a year ago, however I am still VERY flexible, and I also do cheerleading. However, I was wondering if there were any flexibility "goals" I could accomplish? I am really flexible and I would like to see how much more flexible stuff I could actually do. Just so you know...
Does anyone else have problems with shoulder flexibility?
I have been doing gymnastics for five years and it seems like my skills are never as good as they should be because of my lack of shoulder flexibility. No matter how hard I stretch my shoulders, I still have a shoulder angle. It's so...
A couple coaches have mentioned that my DD (L2-3) has exceptional strength but needs work on flexibility. Just curious if that is typical? From a physiological standpoint it makes sense. She's got that shorter, thicker body type and very defined thigh and calf muscles. Not that it...
Short and to the point:
What are your best drills for increasing shoulder flexibility/ROM, I know a few but I'd like to expand.
This is mainly intended for coaches, but I'm not willing to put it in the coaches only forum and miss out on good input from non-coaches.
Thank you in advanced.
I saw someone ask about splits in another post and it made me wonder some girls just never get the necessary shoulder flexibility for gymnastics, and if so is it common not to? Btw, my daughter is doing better but not there yet - and I do know it can take a long time. It's just the split post...
