A giant is an artistic gymnastics...
D seems to have developed a slight block on these. He *can* cast to handstand, but doesn't when he is supposed to be doing a giant out of it. He does them very well in strap, but even over the pit seems tentative. He can do them fairly well with the coach, needing very little spot. He is...
*I posted this in a diff. forum to start, not sure it was the right one :) So I am double posting!!!
I have been a lurker here for a while. I am unlurking! I guess I am not sure if I need parent support or help, anything we have not tried yet would help...LOL?

Bio: my daughter just turned 11, and is level 7. We had a huge change about 9 months ago and had to switch gyms, very dramatic and...
I've recently started working giants again on strap bar and am finding them pretty scary because I haven't quite got the hang of the wrist shift. The strap bar I use has the pvc pipe around the thin metal bars. One time I couldn't get my wrists to shift and was stuck on handstand without my...
So today I attempted to do my cast to handstand and giants by myself. Keep in mind that I've done this with a spot since the beginning of summer 2012. I have never in my life done a cast to handstand by myself before tonight. My teammate got her giants the practice before and I got pretty...
I have a gymnast who is struggling with fear when learning her giants. She can do them easily on strap bar, has perfect shapes and enough strength. I am completely confident that she can do this skill. She knows she can do it. But she's scared. She does long hang pullovers but can't seem to...
I'm posting this question for DD. She's been working on keeps her arms straight on her giants. She says when she keeps her arms straight that they are "slow" and is wondering if there's a deduction. I have no context of how slow, but I have seen her fly around the bars. I'm pretty sure it's...
Hi - I have a Level 7 gymnast who is learning giants along with the rest of her group, but she has really teeny tiny hands. All the other girls are getting them just fine, but this girl feels like she is always going to peel. She is twelve and small in general, so I don't think her hands are...
Well the title basically speaks for itself. DD is working on these skills and has become dead afraid and will not even attempt them on the real bars. She can do giants like mad on the single pit bar. She has done a few flyaways on the pit bar as well, but then hit her toes on the bar and...
DD was very excited today as she broke the old gym record of giants in the mitts of 81 with a whopping....101!
It was very suspenseful watching the other girls trying to break the record so now she wants to go tomorrow and try for 125 ......
Congrats and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!:highfive:
I have not been watching or asking much about practices this summer so I was happily surprised twice yesterday. First I walk in to pick him up from practice and I see his little body swinging around the strap bar doing giants - that was new and scary to watch! Then later he went to a friend's...
Finally got video of D doing his giant-giant-flyaway. He managed the giants on his own but coach still spots the flyaway. got a ways to go, but since he was just getting his strap giants on his own at the beginning of July, I am surprised he is this far :P

I am learning how to do giants in the straps. Favourite skill ever :)
Though I'm not sure how to stop! I tried arching but after my fourth or fith giant my swing is too powerful- yesterday I did a giant with my toes practically on my head.
Method two: I slammed my toes into the floor...
What do you do? What do you think looks better? What do you like? I used to do everything straight but my coach switched me to straddle giants and casts...
I don't notice it much in real time but on slow motion, it is very apparent. the Russians arch, bend their legs and separate legs slightly when doing giants past the low bar. I know a straddle (no bent knees) is acceptable, as is a feet together. But what the Russians do looks so sloppy. Do they...
i am an older gymnast, and i took a year off my sophomore year in high school after competing level 7. I have been back in the gym for about 3-4 months. I can do giants on the strap bar, and i can do timers on the trampoline bar, but i have to hook my thumbs! when i try not to hook my...
Just curious, as I know very little about gymnastics...my dd is training level 6/7 now. She did her first unassisted giant the other day and was very excited, but the next day at practice she wasn't able to make it, but said she was close. (Again, I really have no idea what that means.) I was...
