Is there a difference between a Chinese tap and a tkatchev tap? I thought I remembered there being a difference. Chinese Taps for bigger dismounts and a tkatchev tap for well…tkatchevs lol. Or is it the same thing? And if there is a difference, what is it?

Thanks!

Never taught or practiced either - but my understanding is:
chinese tap: piking through the top of the giant to speed up for a dismount or big release.
Tkatchev tap: horizontal arch so the resulting tap loads the bar down/forward to help launch the tkatchev up/past the bar.

It seems like high level gymnasts mix the two.. but if you wanna tkatchev tap for a dismount you definitely don't want to load the bar down/forward o_O
