Does anyone have a video of what this would look like? DD is doing well and is working for platinum but doesn’t have a bar dismount yet (maybe a flyaway, but it’ll take time). She competed tap swing half turn last year for gold and it sounds like something she would find easy. Any advice on the...
Anyone have any updated tips on delaying the arch phase of the giant, DD like many gymnasts just goes into the arch and whip stage before she is at the very bottom of the swing so runs out of steam before she is at the top.
Read through old threads and watched all the youtube videos we could...
Hi All,
I've got a real head scratcher. My daughter has always been very good at bars but has inexplicably lost her tap swing over the summer. She is a L5 this year and has her first meet next weekend but cannot get her flyaway b/c she can no longer get past horizontal on her tap swings. Does...
My daughter is working on her BHS on beam and she is able to do it well if she swings her arms. However, one of the coaches is now insisting that she learns it without leaning her chest forward and with zero arm swing (arms stay locked at the earns like a BWO). Is this an unusual approach? It...
Adult gymnast here. I've been training a little bit of vaulting and I'm currently working on front handsprings. However before changing gym I did not receive many corrections on my technique. The new coach noticed that I was approaching the vault more like if I were on floor, with my arms...
Sorry for posting a lot today :D I'm about to go back to gymnastics after the holiday break and I've been trying to find out some more info since I can't ask anyone at the gym.
So anyway, I think a good skill to train would be a Korbut, because then I couldn't fall (or it would be easier not...
Hey all. I have been a gymnast for 3 years, a few months ago I took a break to focus on school. I'm going back now, I still have my skills, yet how am I supposed to get back to the performance level of before... a few months isn't that bad, yet I use the vault horse and I don't know about my...
Just curious. My DD (new 5) is quite strong. She can cast to HS, Kip cast HS, (both either over the bar (with straight arms) or hold in HS on the bar), press HS etc. BUT bars has never come easily for her. Last season she did "okay" scoring low 9's. Technique (body position) is good...
I'm assuming I'm using the right terminology. It's where they put their feet on the bar and then swing around backward, to make a full circle.
What is that for? Is it just for an "oops" situation when trying to jump to the high bar?
In new Level 3 bars, it says a gymnast can do a straddle glide swing. I'm not sure if I'm reading the next part correctly - does the gymnast return the glide in a straddle or with legs together? I know the legs come together at the end of the glide, but then do they stay that way? Just not sure...
I have two girls who generally have very strong bars but can't get the dismount to turn quick enough. They start the turn at the right time, but they turn so slowly that they can't properly finish the turn at the top of the swing.
Thoughts/suggestions/drills?
ok I am not a fan of the mill circle/stride circle, so I thought I wanted to try training the single leg basket swing. Does anyone have any good videos or drills?
I have heard some different schools of thought on what type (or size) of swing a Gienger should be initially taught.
Does anyone have any pros or cons for teaching a Gienger from a tap swing...cast...or giant?
We have decided to have our level 3s do the new single leg basket swing (instead of forward stride circle) in preparation for competition next year, as it is closer to the kipping action than the forward stride circle. The girls are doing okay with the skill using a bent leg, but they must have...
Proposed for level 4 next cycle. I've never taught or tried this with straight legs really. What does everyone think? Do you already teach it? Can kids do it with straight legs?
dd's clear hip is at a 45* (half vertical) on the upswing but only roughly horizontal when her shoulders are over the bar. Is it measured as the legs are going over the bars or when the shoulders are supporting the body over the bar?
When teaching BWO-BHS and BHS-BHS on beam do you allow the girls to swing their arms when learning? Is this something that girls eliminate as they get more confident?...or is it not productive?
In other words...the gymnast will continue and add the second skill...but only with an arm swing...
