I am no longer a gymnast, but have been dealing with shin splints lately (most as a result of dance classes on what I believe is a non-sprung wood floor at my campus gym). Anyways, back when I was coaching regularly, I had a whole arsenal of exercises that were supposed to help prevent the (re)occurrence of shin splints. Most of them have now slipped out of my mind (thank you, grad school).

So my question is, does anyone have exercises to help treat/prevent shin splints?

My coach makes me do "toe-tappers" and they work amazingly!
Just sit down on a chair or bench that's maybe a little to low for you and keep your heels on the ground and bring your feet up flexed and back down..the muscles in your shins should start to burn and that's how you know it's working :) Do like 100 on each feet everyday and it'll start to help!

Time off.

Lots of toe/heel raises or ankles circles with your foot with theraband.
