    Mill Circle

I am curious about the seemingly widespread opinion that a mill circle is either very difficult, or a waste of time. In my experience I cannot think of a single girl who was strong enough to do a straight arm front hip circle or Kip who could not do a mill circle with ease. Maybe one. Not...

    back hip circle

My DD has bad her back hip circle for quite a while, but just lately has started "overshooting" it (piking at the end), and then falling off the bar. Any tips to help her overcome that issue? thanks!

    Why a front hip circle?

Ok, well i was thinking about it the other day and can't figure out WHY there is a front hip circle in American routines due to the progressions surely the aim of a learning the kip (in part) is to be able to get a decent cast out of it and i am no coach so i am probably entirely wrong but i was...

    Stride Mill circle drills

I need more ideas for stride/mill circle training. We work on stride hold on top of bar, big step forward to a panel mat, chest up, arms straight. Also work on stride walks under bar in stride hold. Some of my kids are getting it, but many are not. Need ideas to work on hand shift, and any...

    front hip circle

My six year old, level 3 dd is just starting to work on her front hip circle. She understands the basic idea behind it but is still having trouble completing the skill. She does okay with a spot but if she tries herself, she can't quite complete the skill yet. My concern is that she sometimes...

My daughter is 7 and on level 4 at her gym. She was on Level 3 last year. Last year at the meets, she was doing her front mill circle just fine. (with the exception of a few times she went around 2 times instead of just one time) However, I just watched her at the gym today and now she...

1st backhip circle all by herself

I just had to share (a proud mom) that my daughter (who will be 7 in June) did her first backhip circle on bars all by herself tonight. The look on her face once she finished was just priceless. What a great feeling. She's on a roll this week got her back bend kick over Sunday and BH circle...

    Coaches sole circle

Hi all, A couple of our gymnasts have a competition in 2 weeks and are still really struggling with the piked sole circle (the one where they cast and pike on, circle around the bar until almost back to the top and then catch the high bar) Any tips? The gymnasts aren't allowed to bend their...

    Back Hip Circle Problem!

Ok, so I'm USAG level 4, training 5/6. I have very solid routines on everything but bars. I've fallen on every skill in meets except for my glide pullover and mill circle. The most I've fallen in one routine in twice. Right now, bars is looking pretty good except for my back hip circle. I have...

    Sole circle or squat on?

My daughter is a nine year old level 6. She's been having a great year (36.9 AA last meet), and is having so much fun. I don't interfere with her coaches because they are great and know what they are doing. I do not have a clue about gymnastics! She has all of her level 7 skills, and will...

I coached a back hip circle!

Today was my 4th week coaching at the gym by my college, and I'm really really excited to say that one of my level 2s got her back hip circle by herself today! Yes, I've been coaching for almost two years now, but today is the first time that I have felt like I had a direct effect on one...

    Arm Circle

Coaches and Judges, does anyone know exactly how much is deducted on a Level 4 vault without the arm circle?? My vault was great until I had to add the arm circle, now it's slow and not as straight.

What is an arm circle for vault?

Single arm circle backward during the hurdle phase. Arms should be forward on contact. I think that you'll generally see some version of this, however small, but some of the best vaulters do more of a back/forward swing - or a very fast, small arm circle.
