I know that this weekend was the official start of the season for a lot of the JO girls, how did everyone do??? DD competed in her first level 10 meet and she got 1st all around! She was the youngest girl in the entire level 10 session, she's only been an "official" level 10 for 2 weeks, so we weren't really expecting much, so to say that we were ecstatic with the results would be an understatement!!

Congrats everyone!
DD was supposed to start this weekend but had to sit out bc of what we hope is just a pulled quad/thigh muscle. When X raying they found a cortical defect (bony tumor) down lower on the leg, which should be benign, and may not even be related to her pain. However they are sending her for mri/ortho consult to be sure. Dd is starting to feel a little better but is super bummed about the prospect of skipping another meet this coming weekend. Their season runs Jan- March so if it’s something that requires more than just a few weeks off she may not be competing at all. Which would be devastating for her but st this point I’m just a worried nervous wreck and want her healthy.

I'm really sorry to hear this. What made them think to do an Xray for what sounded like a soft tissue injury? I'm really impressed your dr was so thorough and I really hope for you and her that all is benign and she's back in quickly. My dd is also out with an injury (missing an away meet this weekend and who knows how many going forward) and she is seeing a specialist on Wednesday. I waver between the notion that it's nothing and she's heading for surgery to deal with an extra bone in her right hand. The good news is she started competing in December and has already qualified for States. Given that she might not hit another meet between now and then, that's a relief.

Must have been a low scoring weekend, my DD came in first AA and on bars and floor, and only had one 9.0 all day. She won bars with a score of 8.6. I saw a LOT of 6s and 7s, and even some 5s - it was a tough meet!

I actually asked for the X-ray b/c one of her coaches who is also a physical therapist, recommended it to see if there were any signs of stress fracture in the upper femur/hip area. However it’s possible they may have done one anyway. The MRI should be able to not only check the lesion but look for stress reactions that might not show up on an X-ray, and see if there is any tendon damage. Fingers crossed it’s clear and just a strain. Although I’ve heard quad and groin strains can hurt for quite a while, I think it would be better than the other possibilities.

I’m sorry your dd is sidelined as well. This can be such a frustrating sport. And yes I’m also driving myself crazy by deliberating on best and worst outcomes and consulting Dr. Google. Ugh! Keep us updated on what the specialist says, I hope you get some good news!

Omgoodness! Prayers the tumor is NOTHING. Definitely puts gymnastics in perspective, doesn't it!!!!

Sure does! Even though they were sure to tell me it looks like a cortical defect which is benign, my mind cannot help but stray towards super scary stuff. Hubby thinks that the urgent care doctor is overreacting and sending us on a wild goose chase for nothing. Dd has no idea what a lesion or benign even means, all that she's concerned with is when can she start training and competing again (which is probably for the best, I definitely don't want her stressed, as she is already a worrier like me.)
To top it all off I had an appt with the allergist today and have a raging sinus infection. My birthday is Thursday, so Happy Birthday to me! I'm starting to feel like someone up there really has it out for me....

Thanks for letting me have a mini pity party.....If it weren't for this board to be able to vent when needed, I don't know what I would do!

Must be uh00p

I am so sorry you're going through all this! On the positive side, after a few days of antibiotics maybe you'll feel better by your birthday?! Please keep us updated on your daughter, I hope it is something easily fixed.

You have A LOT going on. Vent away - you will get all the sympathy in the world from me. Hope by Thursday you are a) feeling a little better and b) have some answers on dd so you can actually enjoy yourself even if only a little. Please keep us updated.

Congrats to those girls who had a great start to their season. Sounds like there were some awesome first meets.

And to those whose kiddos are currently sitting out, I’m hoping everyone is healthy soon! Keep us posted.

Sophia started off her FOURTH year level 10 in fine fashion.....room to improve but landed her triple on floor for a 9.825 and kept her head when something went wrong on bars. 38.150 AA. Next meet this weekend.

DD competed a full meet for the first time since 2015 (injuries sidelined her the last two seasons). She did well - winning vault and breaking 36AA. All I was thinking was how great that she was able to compete all 4 events and get a mobility score in case of another injury. It was the most stress free meet I have ever experienced as there were absolutely no expectations.

Both of my girls competed this weekend (level 7) and were in the same age category. Youngest DD (9 yrs) had 2 first time evers-fall on bars and fall on floor). She still managed to place 0.1 ahead of her 11 year old sister. It's going to be an interesting season with them competing against (and with) each other at most of the meets. Hoping for a better meet in two weeks. Oldest DD did place 2nd on beam but needs work on bars. Looking forward to seeing how this season turns out.
