When I was learning, we were required to be able to do a cast-HS before attempting a giant. Is this still a good idea? What are the usual progressions?
S for those of you who have stood by my DD and myself. It is official DD is now doing giants and competeing them in a meet. Yea!!
This was our 2nd meet of this year and she did it and i was very proud of her.:o
However somewhere in the process of conquering the Giant she has lost her clear...
Ok so for those of you who have been following DD's giant mental block issue here is the latest.
DD and I have had several long talks on this subject basically it boils down to she has hit a mental block wall after the cast to about handstand:mad:. I think it is the under swing. She says her...
I am in L6, and we do baby giants (also called 3/4 giants or giant timers). I get a lot of height in my cast, and have fairly good form, but I can't seem to flip my wrists to keep the skill moving, and not lose the connection to the swings. My coach says that it is because I have too much...
Ok so it is crunch time for DD now on bars. :)We officially know that the first meet will be January 10th at the U of M Gopher Invite Session 2. We are very fortunate that we have a small session only 57 gymnasts total only 21 are Level 7's so it should be less overwhelming than last year at...
What's the best way to introduce elgrip giants on highbar?
There are several things I'd like to know: first, how to train the giant itself. Most of the time, the tap I see is a slight heeldrive down to a hard pike comming back up -- is this correct? What drills and progressions are effective in...
My DD as many of you know will be a second year Level7 this year. She is great with that last year she was the only Level 7. Her skills look good except for Bars.
On beam she added a new series, vault she always likes, floor she changed her routine up a little.
Her bars area another...
DD is level 7 & having trouble getting her giant. She says her problem is... "she has trouble shifting her hands properly"??? Anyone know what she means or have any advice for her???
It has been a loooong road for DD1's giants. She would get on top of the bar in a handstand then fall down or come down to front support. She did one and all her friends were screaming:D She is the first one to get them on her level 7 team:)
Ok so DD is finally doing giants on her own on single rail bar and pit bar. Yeah! However, now she can't figure out how not to hit her toes on the low bar and is worried about this. Teammates told her to straddle or pike and when she does this it kills her swing. Any ideas?? I know...
Ok so it has been about 1 year in the making but DD finally did her giants alone no spot. ;)YEAh!!!! I want to thank all of you for the support, advice, and encouragement. It has been a lot of help to us both. Once she finally did it alone she came home and said "what a waste of 1 year it wasn't...
Hi to everyone. My name is Don G. Anweiler and i am a career gymnastic coach. I am 60 years young and have been coaching since 1962. Orginally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Last year I was offered a coaching job on a small island (13km square), that you can walk around in one...
Today was a big day for me! I did my first giant flyaway (with a spot)! However, I didn't do it on our pit bar because I don't like doing flyaways there, so I went for it on a real bar :D! Sadly, I over-rotated and put my arm back when I landed (which your not supposed to do :o) and hurt myself...
:worried: Ok so here goes my vent and then hopefully some advice from all of you. My DD is working on her level 8 stuff but, will compete Level 7 again due to her bars. So here is mine and her frustration she needs a giant. She has been working them for 1 1/2 years with the optional coach. Now...
:eek:I was just wondering how old other gymnasts were out there when they (you) started doing Giants? Did you learn them with a strap bar, harness or "old school" with gravity as your only friend? LOL! There appears to be a school of thought among some coaches out there that girls need...
i'm hoping to (maybe) do front giants in my lvl 8 bar routine next season. i've been doing on stap bar for a few weeks and a couple of days ago i tried them - still on strap bar - with my hands in reverse grip (i think that's what it's called?) but anyway, it felt really really weird... is it...
Hi. I'm new to the forum. My daughter is a Level 8 (first year) and still has not truly gotten her giant. She has alot of fear on doing it. She CAN do it, but balks alot of the time, and quite frankly...they look real ugly when she does do them (which is rare). This obviously is hurting her...
:eek:I cant seem to make it around the bar smoothly and i doont understand why. i tried tapping later and earlyer but it just doent seem to work if anyone has any addvice do tell.

:oI am really scared. I’m not sure I can do my giants. I know that I can I just hate the feeling of going in a circle around the bar. I can’t talk to my parents about this because they know I can do it. But they aren’t the ones that actually have to do it. I hate when they do this but I...
