    Coaches Team Size and Practices

After reading the thread about team sizes (and realizing that mine is pretty small, as I had assumed), I'm super curious about how your gyms FIT all these kids into the gym at the hours they need to go. My team has about 15 JO kids Levels 2-6 and 20 Xcel kids Bronze-Platinum. On days when all...

Women Why is chinese practice so cruel?

I am pretty sure all of you know the cruel gymnastics training clips of chinese gymnastics, where children are literally tortured. Of course, in higher Level gymnastics, there is a lot of hard work and tears and the coaches need to be strict and push their gymnasts in some points...but this is...

    Men snacks during practice?

We started our fall schedule this week, and my son (6yo) has been an absolute beast after practice. It's the timing more than the length of the practice, I think. He's there 4:00-7:00, and we usually eat dinner around 6:00-6:30. By the time we got home last night, he was in full on meltdown...

    Women Times of Practice

    There had been grumbling from some of the parents lately about how late practice runs. I'm wondering if we're that far out of line though. L4 and L5 practice - M: 5:00 - 8:30p T: 5:30 - 8:30p W: 5:00 - 8:30p F: 5:00 - 8:30p What hours are your practice?

    Women Watching practice

I'm just wondering how many gym moms watch practice. I love to watch, but lately it's been rough. Seems the harder the skills get, the harder it is to watch. Although DD Likes me to be there, she seems to better when I am not in the lobby.

Parents So how do you handle dinners with late practices?

Last year we practiced from 4:30-7:30 and got home about 8:15. The girls go directly to the gym right afterschool so they don't get to come home first but do go to my husband's work for about 40 minutes before practice (he picks them up after school and drops them off at practice). During this...

    Women cancelled practice

We had to cancel practice tonight because it's too hot. For those gyms without air conditioning - what do you do to keep it cool enough for gymnastics? We have several big fans placed by the doors, but I don't think they really do anything other than make it impossible to talk while being heard.

    Practice hairstyles for long hair

Every time I go to practice, my hair falls out of my chosen style within an hour. I usually put it in a bun or a ponytail, but my hair is very long, so I can't put my hair in the typical gymnastics style. I have tried braids as well, but my hair is so long that if I'm on bars it will slap me in...

    Women Dizziness before practice?

Since my gym closed (first gym I went to), I've been feeling dizzy/headachey/nauseous before practice. I left the 2nd gym I was at, because I wasn't fond of the coaching. I'm now at a new gym but the problem still persists. Can this be a nervous thing? It worries me because I love gymnastics...

Being extremely sore after Thursday practice...

For some reason, the muscle in my upper arm is really sore after practice on Thursday. I am guessing this is normal, as I have moved up to team and we have been conditioning more. Any idea if it will go away, and yes I know being sore is part of life as a gymnast, I'm just wondering how long it...

    Snack before practices?

What should I eat before practice? I practice from 5:30-8:30, and I am not allergic to nuts.

Parents Practice at another gym on vacation?

I heard another mom talking at pick up the other day about working out at another gym while on vacation. Apparently they vacation same place every year, and her daughter works out at a gym there. Has anyone ever heard of this? DD's gym is closed for two weeks, and then we go on vacation for a...

    Parents Practice after Dental treatment

My oldest dd has an appointment in the morning and will most probably need a tooth extraction (baby tooth). I am wondering if it is safe for her to go to practice later that evening (last practice before her competition). Has anyone else dd/ds had dental treatment and gone to gym the same day?

Women Practicing and tumbling with a cast??

Coaches, do you allow your gymnasts to practice and tumble with a cast? I have seen plenty of kids at my dd's gym tumble on the floor with casts on their arms and work on beam. Personally, I think it is dangerous and could lead to yet another injury. Wondering if it is common. Parents, do you...

Women How much time is spent on conditioning each practice

Let me first apologize if this topic has been beat into the ground. I did many searches before asking the question. I'm trying to see what the avg amount of a 4 hour practice 5 days a week is spent only on conditioning. How many coaches spend the same amount of conditioning each practice. Or...

Parents Little red dots on the face after practice?

I've been noticing for the last few weeks, that sometimes after practice DD has these little red dot all over her face, like a tiny blood vessels bursting under her skin. They usually go away by the next morning. Is that normal? It must be from straining her face too hard during conditioning? Is...

    Parents Cancelled Practice

Not sure many of you have to deal with this very often, but I thought I would ask. If your gym cancels practice (or just your "team" that you are on), do you get a refund/prorate?

Parents Practice Time Poll: JO Women Levels 4-8

I'm curious to know what's most common as far as the times of day kids are practicing. At our gym, Xcel and Rec. are what mainly constitute the 3:00-6:00PM hours and the JO girls mainly train during the 6:00-9:00PM time frames. *You can select more than one reply if you're a parent to more...

Parents Do you do conditioning/practice with your children?

Bit lighthearted but for the non-gymnast parent do you do gymnastics fitness with your children? Inspired by my dds abs we do some stuff together at home, I'm looking for more ideas - we do planks (with raises), sit ups, v-sits, jumps (pike/straddle/tuck/straight) press ups and hand stand...

Parents Does anyone else have a child who does not like to do gymnastics outside of class/practice?

Recently we got together with some friends of ours who have a daughter who is at a similar level of gymnastics to my daughter. The other girl did not stop practicing her cartwheels, handstands, bridges, etc. After seeing this I asked another friend if her daughter practices at home and she...
