I saw my 6 year old Level 2 hit her pullover on bars last night more than once with ease. She claims to have her back hip circle, too, but I haven't seen that one yet.
My daughter is a 1st year level 5 & I was wondering if it was better for her to connect everything on bars or pause to get a hihger cast and more momentum, specifically after her kip to the high bar. She can't seem to do both yet.
Earlier today, I sent the following e-mail to Connie Malone.
If anybody else feels the same way, I encourage you to speak up and contact USAG to share your thoughts.
EDIT: Apparently this deduction no longer applies! However, I still wish USAG would do more to encourage coaches to stand...
This might sound stupid, but I'm curious. My dd is a level 5, and although she is 10 years old, she is just 50 pounds and about 4 feet tall. Bars is her hardest event, even though she has great core strength, can do many press handstands, chin up champ, etc. so I don't think it is a strength...
I have a very tall Level 5 gymnast. The bars do not go out far enough for her to not hit her feet on the low bar when she does her tap swings (she is 5'4''). The bars at our gym are fine, but when we go to meets they always have bars that don't go out far enough. One of the judges said our home...
In a toe-on on UB, are the feet required to be between the hands, or can the skill be done with a small straddle such that the feet are just outside the hands?
(This is for a plain toe-on to handstand, not a shaposh or toe shoot to high)
I'm looking at the women's USAG JO optionals rules, and I could use some clarification.
On page 58, 5a-5d give details about how circling elements are credited and deducted depending on the angle at which they finish.
Then 5e says any element that doesn't finish within 20 degrees of...
Well the title basically speaks for itself. DD is working on these skills and has become dead afraid and will not even attempt them on the real bars. She can do giants like mad on the single pit bar. She has done a few flyaways on the pit bar as well, but then hit her toes on the bar and...
Hi everyone!! I just really want to say how proud I am of myself for doing this new skill on bars that I've only practiced like three or four times. I only know what the name of the skill is in French though but it doesn't matter I'm just really happy :D And all my team mates were cheering and...
I'm so excited for DD because she got her layout flyaway out of her giants today. She had a little bit of fear on this skill because of the speed coming out of the giants (and fear is not something she's really felt before so it was a new experience for both of us). Day one - she asked for a...
I am a girl and a gymnast but I don't know much about the rules, skills, anything really about MAG... I was watching the Olympics and I noticed that on p bars the do a giant like skill (or swing into release). They have to bend their legs at the bottom because the p bars are low. I know this is...
I am currently working on my pirouette on low bar, and though I am not having trouble with the actual pirouette, I am having trouble holding my feet up afterwards during the kip out of it. I feel like I have very little control coming out of the pirouette but I am not sure how to try and gain...
In anticipation of tomorrow's event finals.
For the US:
Gabby on Bars
Sam on Vault
For GB:
Beth Tweddle on Bars
Thomas Kristian on Vault
Let's have a no falls final please! Good luck to all.
I don't notice it much in real time but on slow motion, it is very apparent. the Russians arch, bend their legs and separate legs slightly when doing giants past the low bar. I know a straddle (no bent knees) is acceptable, as is a feet together. But what the Russians do looks so sloppy. Do they...
I'm curious about what other people have to say about positioning of the thumbs on bars. Some of the girls as my gym train kip cast handstands to giants without switching their thumbs at all (thumbs on top of the bar for the glide, and remain on the top for the handstand), whereas others are...
I'm so excited for my older dd - she has been working so hard and this week on bars she did 3 new skills - toe hand, double back dismount, and bail (handstand to handstand)!!!! With these skills, it won't be long before they start connecting stuff! The jump from Level 8 bars to Level 9 bars is...
While watching various old gymnastics clips today, I came across a mount on uneven bars that I don't remember ever seeing.
The gymnast started beyond the high bar, ran, did a roundoff onto a springboard, did some sort of tucked flip before grabbing the low bar with her hands.
It was very...
