As most of you know, my DD made a tremendous comeback from a broken tibia and fibula. She has had a great 1/2 season and has all of her level 7 skills back. She is even doing tsuk drills, which I thought she would NEVER do.
However, about 10 months ago while she was in the midst of...
Just wondering how hard it is to go from strap bar giants ro real giants. To my unexperienced eye it looks like night vs. day. I hear other gym parents saying different things but they don't have gymmies that actually have giants so now I'm curious.
A couple of weeks ago I posted a thread about my fear of giants. Last week, I had a breakthrough moment and actually did them on the bar set without a spot! I will be competing them for the first time this weekend. Thank you to everyone who helped!
Hi All,
My daughter is a gymnast that has been working the strap bar with gloves for quite a long time, working her form and technique. She is an older gymnast with a mature body. At some point, the decision will be made to try giants on the regular bar set. Have you seen how this has been...
My DD is at the age where she is growing an inch every three months. Coupled with her arms also growing an inch while her legs grow, it is a gym mom's night mare. ;)
She now does her giants with flexed feet when they are gliding past the low bar because she doesn't want to slam them into the...
Hey, DD has her first level 6 meet this weekend! (eek!!) We cant watch practice but I noticed the last few minutes last week and saw that she was doing a baby giant and most were not. I asked her and she said that 7 of our 9 level 6's were doing just kip cast dismount off high but 2 of them...
I have a gymnast who can't seem to make the change from overlow to giant. Every time we work giants, she closes the shoulder angle at the last second (even spotted). I cant posted a video, but she gets almost to handstand and then closes her shoulders. She casts to handstand fine. Her fall from...
Just curious, on high-bar, if a boy (or girl?) already has Giants, what is the benefit of mastering the Baby Giant? Does it progress to something else besides the Giant?
I just keep hearing that the Baby Giant is a progression toward Giant. Wondering if there is more worth to it than that...
Does anyone have video of a L7 bar routine without giants (preferably one that scored decently)? My DD is getting down to the wire here. And YES, her HC said she "could" still do 7 without giants, so I'm just trying to see what that might look like.
I am soooooooooooooo happy for her!!!!! She had been working hollow body 3/4 Giants for a month and was dying to do real ones on the wood bar.......she got her chance tonight, and after 4 tries, they looked pretty good! I guess the drills really pay off....
Thanks to the great coaches.
I am sick of adults commenting on my DDs height! She's 4'10 and starting optionals this year, a perfectly normal and healthy height and weight.
I realize that we live in a part of the world where women and girls are of short stature and are possibly slower to mature but that doesn't mean my...
Hey guys, so last week I made my first giant on strap! (Cheers) I was so happy. But it was the strangest (and still kinda is) feeling ever. I was on strap and I was just tapping bigger and bigger in hopes of going over. Suddenly I hit the handstand and I began to feel like I was slowly falling...
Hi everyone, my name is Leia and I am 14 years old and I am training for level 9. My problem is that I will do my giants but no flyaway on the pitbar and then when I get to the high bar I won't do either my giants or my flyaway without someone standing there or spotting me. I have had my giants...
the Giants thread got me thinking (and I didn't want to hijack): which form of giants is "harder"? Doing it by yourself on the regular bar/single bar (wooden bar) or doing them on the strap bar? DD can now do them by herself on the regular single bar, and on the high bar of the uneven bars, but...
I am still really uneasy about these. DD can tap into them in straps, can't quite get over with a CHS in straps, has yet to even move them to pit bar. Summer schedule is about to start, two months of 22 hours a week. Is there any chance she'll have competition-ready giants by January?
I know the progressions for giants. You should have a kip cast handstand. Then you usually start with big tap swings in straps, higher and higher until you go over. Then you move to the pit, then to the real bar.
How long does it usually take to get from strap bar to pit bar to real bar without...
Hi all-
I've looked through the skill thread for giant/baby giant drills but it looks like a lot of the really good ones require a coach to spot.
Does anyone have suggestions for drills (especially to encourage strong tapping and correct timing, and discourage arching over the top) that a...
I am a coach and currently I have a L5 group. All of the kids are very likely to be good L7 next season, we did a lot of upgrading recently. We got a new girl last month and she has been doing really well! She is a real angel and fits perfectly into our team.
She is pretty ready for L7 also...
