Parents First Practice at New Gym

Remember I was trying to decide if we should switch gyms? I really wanted my DD to have team mates, a peer group at the gym which our old gym lacked at her age/ability level. Well, we went to her first practice at the new gym and 6 of the 7 girls were there, all very close in age and 3 of the...

Parents what trumps gym practice in the summer?

That would be summer swim league, with dual meets on Tuesdays same as gym practice. About 20% of my daughter's gym team was racing in the dual meet we were at last night. And from what I can tell they are top swimmers. Very proud of them! Do you guys have any kids racing now, or in a few...

Parents Just dropped her off for her first "real" practice

And I managed to NOT cry about it. She was so sweet - "Momma, are you sure you can't stay for just a few minutes?" (gym has no parent observation policy - last practice of the month is the only open practice). We've had some trial runs at me dropping her off, but I've always stayed for the...

Coaches Should I leave this coaching position after only one practice?

I've recently left the gym job I have been at for almost 9 years. Love the kids and like the program, but was offered one of those "amazing" opportunities. I could help start a brand new gym. Wouldn't have to put up any money and could just coach and help start a program with a couple of...

    Coaches Kids crying during practice

From: Link Removed One girl at my gym was like this from about 10 to about 12 years old. She would regularly have all out uncontrolled screaming crying breakdowns. Now, three years later, she's matured out of it, blossomed spectacularly as a gymnast, and has quite possibly the best attitude in...

    First practice with the team!!

FINALLY!!! I had to wait like 3 months because they didn't want me to compete and they didn't want any non-competing team members (...) but yesterday was the last (non-state) meet of the year, so I get to come!! After all this time!!! I'm sooo nervous, though. I hope I get along with the other...

    Great practice!

Tonight I had an awesome practice! I FINALLY got my cast handstand all the way up...three days after states! Oh well, I'll have it for next year! And I'm getting close to my giant on pit bar! So I was just wondering...how would you define a 'good practice' for yourself?

Parents Standard practice @ gym during coaching change?

How does your gym handle a coaches departure or new coaches joining the gym? I ask because J's gym has been in a state of flux recently. She had 2 main coaches and one left for maternity leave. Since then the girls have had a carousel of coaches. They are scheduled to move to L4 May 1st but...

    practice beams for optionals?

Just wondering if there are any optional gymnasts who use a beam at home. My daughter competed level 7 this year and I'm wondering if a low beam or floor beam(and mat) would be useful to practice things like back handsprings

    Meets or Practices?

I have a question for all you gymnasts. Are you better under pressure (at meets) or at practices? Some girls on my team like being in practice because they get nervous and miss skills on beam or bars that they normally get. I do better under pressure though. I have had a horrible week in the gym...

How to get through long practices?

My workouts are usually 4 hours, sometimes after a 7-to-3 school day, but next wek we don't have school because of spring break. I'm leaving for New Mexico on Tuesday, so my coach decided it was a good idea to have me squeeze my entire week's workout into Monday...I'll be going for four hours in...

Parents First team practice for DS!

Today is the day that Nicholas has been waiting for! The men's level 5 team meets 3 days a week for 4 hours-- the same days as his sister! I just hope their groups will be as far away as possible so no chances for fighting:rolleyes: He is very excited to uptrain and compete... I told him that...

Help for practicing bhs and back tuck at home

I don't train at a gym but I really want to learn to do a bhs and back tuck. I don't have a trampoline. But have a very strong friend who could spot. But I don't know what types of exercises I can do to get the passes down.

    Parents Bad day at practice

My dd had a real bad day at the gym yesterday. It started off well, with her doing some really nice level 7 skills on beam, but when she rotated to bars, things went down hill. She was told to do her level 6 routine, which she messed up, and then she was berated by the coach, and threatened...

Want to see a college gymnastics practice?

I did, so I asked. And, I even got to take pictures. Some of them are pretty neat. Feel free to look, and comment on gymnastike. gymnastics Photos - UIC - Practice - January 2010 on Gymnastike The women at UIC are some hard working gymnasts... hopefully, like me, you guys can show some...

    Competing or practice?

I am wondering which do you guys like the best? For those of you who have competed. I definitely find practice more fun, and like it more. I like to have the chance to try something over if I make a mistake...and I like throwing new skills into pits and whatnot, which you cannot do at competition.

    First practice with grips

So I used my grips for the first time today. I wouldn't say I liked them or disliked them but it was definitely different. I've heard from some other people that they felt slippery but I felt like I didn't swing as easily. Is that just part of the whole break in process or should I use more...

Parents What a fun week in practice!

The past two nights they have been doing some up training skills and my DD is just loving it! She has been doing giants on the high bar and cast handstands with the owner. I said it before but I'll say it again, I love that he works with the girls! Next time I see him I might give him a hug! On...

    Leaning/sitting during practice

Does your gym have coaches that are always leaning against walls, columns/stacked mats or sitting during practice?

    Judge evaluating skills at practice?

Just got an e-mail from one of our HCs and she said in a few weeks there is a judge coming to practice to evaluate the Optional girls' skills! They will get feedback and what they need to improve, etc. and how ready they might be for the level they want to compete. This is well in advance of...
