So... is it safe to assume that when 10 or 15 of the top 100 scores are from the same meet, that the meet in question is particularly high scoring? Or is it possible that those gymnasts were all (And from various gyms) just that good?
MY gym just had their first gymnastics meet last weekend and we have another one this weekend. The girls on my team were very negative going into the meet and weren't expecting to do well. They did fairly well and scored in the mid 8s on most events and many did skills that they had been...
For one of our upcoming meets, DD has a session time of 5:45. So we will be arriving at the meet at 5 to register and do a bathroom break. This is our first evening session start time and I know she won’t be done until at least 8:00 so my question is, how do you handle dinner? Is it best to do...
DS has his first meet of the season on Sunday, and yesterday (Monday) was diagnosed with flu. He is taking Tamiflu (he was in time for it) and he did get the vaccine this year - both of which, according to the doctor, should shorten the duration and severity of the illness. He is better today...
I'm asking this both out of a gymnast point of view and a coach point of view.
1. As a gymnast, I'm not allowed to take my bag into the competition room. Last year I just went with it, but by the last event I was mostly so thirsty I couldn't focus. How would you eat/drink during a meet?
2. I'm...
I've been to the NCAA championships, but never a regular meet.
How does it work with only two teams? Do they only do events at one time? or all four, and the teams are split up?
Also - about how long do they last?
Thanks for any info!
This is my daughter's first year competing and she has done two meets so far. Her third one is coming up soon and her grandparents will also be there. So far, I have been kind of quiet at the meets, just clapping after she competes an event and during awards I wait until the finish announcing...
I thought the scores were harsh at DD's in-house meet and am hoping for better at the real meets. Curious if others have found judging to be harsher at in-house than at regular meets.
My now 14-years L8 daughter always perform worse when the drive to get the place is over 2 hours. If she can stay the night before her session, she usually does fine. My husband and I thought she may have a sort of balance or sensory issues that might need time to adjust. So we usually arrive at...
I have to decide which meet to sign up for close to states. I'm really interested to hear what coaches have to say.
We are only doing one.
Meet A would give 3 before states (3 weekends)
Meet B would give one week (one weekend) before states.
My gymmies meet prior to these 2 would be 5 weeks...
Hello everybody!
I am headed to Baltimore tonight for the Christmas on the Chesapeake meet. I will be there Friday coaching the Level 5s (at 7:45, ugh!) and Saturday coaching the Level 4s, although I also plan on staying to watch some of the Level 10s on Saturday, too.
I'm also headed to the...

Thanks to everyone that has helped steer me (and my dd) in the right direction. I’m absolutely certain that without the guidance and support that I’ve received from all of...
So, tomorrow is my state meet, and this isn't my first competition season, but I'm EXTREMELY nervous. It has been this way the past few competitions, too. I'm very nervous before the meet, and then while I'm standing at any event before the judges salute at me, I'm shaking and feel like I have...
Trying to find some information on meet director fees. We (booster club) hold a meet each year and are examining our payments to see if we need to make adjustments in our budget in some areas. How much is a meet director typically paid? We are a small competition. Two day, 8 session, one...
DS had his mock meet for level 8 today and I think it went well. His warm up tumbling on floor looked really good but when he did the routine he got winded and lost his concentration on the whip half barani ( a pass he's been struggling with) and fell and then fell on the double full right after...
Maybe a few years ago I was a new gym parent and I was excited and the time seemed to fly by. But I swear 5 years ago meets took far less time. Like 4-5 hours and we were done. Today was our first of the year and the session started at 1pm and awards ended at 7:35. That was for 72 6-10's...
So my DD (7 1/2 yo, lvl 4) has been doing pretty well this season...scores from mid 35's to mid 36's first few meets. Then yesterday at her first "big" meet (ie best gyms in the state there, HC from her gym came, and her actual coach did not), she totally tanked and ended up with just over a...
