It seems to me that the compulsory routines are better suited to smaller, younger girls. That the routines were designed for smaller, younger girls.
I've noticed at meets, included state finals, that the older girls (11+) score lower than younger girls, and the top scores in those age groups...
In my experience, the most common cause of piking is leaning too far forward on the board. Here are a couple things I would try:
1) Start the run a little further back (say 6 to 12 inches), forcing her to take a longer hurdle
2) Tell her to think about pushing the board forward with her feet...
Wondering if most gyms have girls repeat level 4? None of the girls from our 1st year level 4's are advancing to 5 even though many scored 34 - 36 at several meets. They are all 8 years old. All the 2nd year year 4 are moving up even though some are even worse than the 1st year. Just wondering...
DD had her state meet on Sun. which was held at Wide World of Sports @ Disney, which was very exciting .We went up Sat dd and her friend played around in the pool and arcade and of course had a hard time falling a sleep and we had an 8am session .She was bummed that she was not with any of her...
I know this is a bit premature, but dd is moving up to level 4. They have started practicing the front hip circle and shoot-thrus at practice.
We have a pratice bar at home, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips for my dd on these skills. I know it will probably take time to get, but...
Hey all, I wrote about a month ago about DD being invited into Preteam... well now starting in June they have moved her up to the USAG Level 4 (wont be competing)... she turned 5 in December, and they want her train as a level 4 for the next 8 months until she is eligible and of age to start...
Long, long day. We drove out and back in the same day, 4 1/2 hrs each way, yikes! But it meant a friend watched my 4 yr old so I only had to bring the baby (who was very disappointed that she wasn't allowed to eat the dirty popcorn off the floor)
I'm kicking myself for not bringing my camera...
Coaches, parents and gymnasts:
Some of you know that my daughter just switched to a new gym after a frustrating past 6 months at her old gym. We had lost our head coach who was very good with compulsory routines, the little details, conditioning, etc. There have been many new coaches that...
Well after Harv and Shane were commenting on what judges look for, here is DS State Championship L4...
I love when people critique because I learn what is right and wrong, AND i can get a feel for what the judges look for....
Personally, there is a boy on our team that to me looks more perfect...
Daughter had her last level 4 meet over the weekend. She did well placed 3in AA with a 35.5 got all 9's except those dam bars which she got a 8.25(She went around 2x in the mill circle). She ended up with a trophy for her AA and 4 medals for each event she placed 2 in beam and 3rd in floor...
Are there any neutral deductions that can be taken for a level 4 bar routine? My daughter recently scored much lower than she had previously, with what looks like the same routine. There was a digital photographer at the meet, and looking back through the stills, I can't find the deductions...

He nailed every routine.....
We were particularly proud at the fact that he went for some bonuses on the floor routine AND nailed em.....Floor has always been his...

My older dd had her 2nd to last practice before states tonight. She came home upset because one of the coaches told her she was leaving a cast out of her routine. She did the routine without the cast at her last meet and got a 8.45, but also had a couple form breaks.
Is there supposed to be an...
Yesterday (Sunday) was the last day of season for our lower level boys. It was the Northern California Boys State Championships!
When we arrived at the gym, I was, like, totally intimidated. The place was huge, with two complete gymnastics setups in one gigantic room. I was even more...
Well, we didn't find any takers on those three empty seats on the plane, LOL (we had a lot of turbulence on the way home, so it might not have been good to have extra passengers anyway...don't know that they would have flown with us after that )
First event was vault...9.375 (it was really...
