Hi everybody - haven't been on in awhile. After a summer of struggles and thoughts of quitting dd had her first level 7 meet yesterday. She was expecting low scores as she hasn't mastered some of her skills - namely she doesn't have her flip flop on the beam and her giants on the bars. But...
I actually have several questions...
First, do you have to compete level 6 before level 7, or can you skip it? I am currently competing Level 5 in Colorado, but in the summer of 2012, I'll be moving to Pennsylvania where they compete both compulsory and optional at the same time...
Second, what...
Jess and her teammates were all so excited to be a "big kid" and start their level 7 season.
We started on vault and started the season with a nice 9.15
But then off to bars . . . oh bars, how we despise thee . . . 7.35! we were very happy to start the season on bars over a 7.
Beam . . . I'm...
Okay, so I understand that you need 5 A's and 2 B's, and that there are certain allowable C's. But If you have, say, 3 A's and 4 B's, will they count the extra 2 B's in place of the missing 2 A's, or do you then have to add A's? Because on most of my events I don't have enough A's but I have...
Are giants required for Level 7 bars or can the girls do something different? My daughter 'almost' has her giants can do them with an 'almost spot'...at this point I think it is confidence... and her coach said that for the first few meets they can do something different (I forget what, sorry!!)...
My daughter is a level 7. When her routine was completed it was with three tumbling passes. Now her gym has decided that all level 7's should only complete two tumbling passes even those that have been competing in level 7 for more than one year. Does this fufill all the requirements?
Does anyone have any idea how long it takes to get your first level 7 floor routine down? My dd's going to have a little over a month from the time she gets her music/choregraphy to her first meet this season.
There seems to be a lot of "favorites" being played because so many of the moms work...
I am 13 and turning 14 in about a month... I've been doing gymnastics at a real gym for 2 years now and I progressed very quickly winning the level 5 state championship for both seasons! I'm training level 6 trying to go up to level 7. The skills that I have include:
Vault: Front handspring, and...
hi everyone,
my coach is making me do level 7 but i dont think im ready. i can do
vault: half on half off
bars: kip, free hip, squat on, uprise, fly away, giants on straps
beam:bhs on low beam, bwr bwr, bwr back tuck dismount
floor: back tuck, bad back layout with a spot, front front onto mat...
I have an "older" Level 7 (freshman in high school) that has struggled for several years now on giants on bars. Meanwhile her skills on the other events continue to accelerate. She has phenomenal tumbling on floor (double fulls, front layouts, double backs into pit and on tumble track, triple...
I posted this thread on the Q& forum. But I also want to get coaches insight. I like my Dd's coach and was hoping maybe someone could shed light on this situation that is worrying me. I am sure i am missing something and could be wrong in my suspicions. I hink our HC may be rushing some girls...
I could be wrong, but I think our HC may be rushing some girls to higher levels because we now only have maybe 5 gymnasts in Levels 8 through 10. We used to have more higher level gymnasts but two years ago, we lost half our team, mostly, levels 7-10. We were down to 7 gymnasts in L7-L10...
I im deciding what level gonna do next season... What are the differences? ik that I.O is for aau (which im am) but what are the skills? Level 7 skills? and what are the major things i should know about the levels to make my decision?? Start values? floor music? anything really that would help!
Is it worth doing a press handstand mount vs something safer? Dd coach wants her to do this in her routine and someone said it was a too risky to chance a fall for a mount.
My daughter has excelled at floor since level 4 and took 1st in floor at many competitions in level 6 (as well as AA at times). She was in the top 1-3 consistently for floor this year at level 7, including state competition. However, she's conflicted about continuing given upcoming high school...

Can someone explain this to me? The awards go out different percentages per age group. Is this normal?

10 year olds 34%
11- not up yet
12 year olds 24%
13 year olds 29%

2009 USAG NEW YORK STATE LEVEL 7
My daughter is going to compete Level 7 in the fall. I'm curious what are the required beam and floor skills.
She has said something about 'flight' on the beam so I'm guessing that is a back handspring, which I know she has. What else is different from Level 6?
And what are the required...
