My DD is getting ready to select her floor music. She has her heart set on something from Hairspray, leaning toward Ladies Choice.
She had great floor music the first 2 years of optionals. Never heard it at any meet we were ever at. And the music suit her upbeat, bubbly personality perfectly...
We have a small optional team, 1 or 2 girls, if one coach takes a special interest and uses her artistic talent and time to choreograph a floor routine; should the coach be paid extra for this choreograph or is this just part of the job. How is this handled at other gyms?
One other questions...
Can someone explain the requirements for Level 8 floor:
1 acro series with 2 saltos - 3 directly connected cro flights 2 of which are saltos. Please give example and identify which are saltos.
3 different saltos
and last salto.
Can you explain it in a nutshell for common eveyday dad who...

We seem to get a lot of threads about floor music, and I know coaches, parents, and gymnasts are constantly searching for good routine music, so I thought it would be good to have a permanent topic...
At my gym we keep our floor music for 2 years. Unless you are a senior then you get to get new music for your senior year. You can name any song and get it. When you aren't a senior though, you have to keep it for two years and you can't just be like I want this song for mine! Usually we will...
I have a girl working on a double back whe can currently land it consistently off rod floor to 16 inches above ground level. My question is you guys decide to move them form rod floor to the floor.
Did you other gymnasts see Courtney McCools floor tonight at the meet against UCLA? 10.0! It was her first 10 they said. Of course thats amateur to me I mean I've had 27 tens in my gymnastics career so far. haha sike. but yeah it was perfect ! She's definitely one to watch on floor!
Related to this topic - how many of the parents have a say in their dd's optional music? My dd's coaches are Russian and we really have no say in their music. They let us listen to it and if we absolutely hate it, they might consider changing it - but usually not. Of course my dd loves her...
Does anyone have video of the old Level 4 floor routine? My daughter was trying to remember the routine/music (she was on pre-team at the time), and I can't find a video clip of it. If anyone could post one to share, that'd be great. Thanks!
Hi there. My daughter is a 5 at a local growing YMCA program. Currently the gym has only a strip spring floor, but it seems the gym has room for a full floor. Any advice on successful fundraising would be greatly appreciated. Also, just wondering where we can go to get help with the best way...
We have 3.5 weeks until our state meet and I am still confused about floor. This is my daughter's first year competing L7 (age 9) and I'm still learning the ropes. On her floor routine she has not scored above a 9.3. The coaches don't give any additional critiques because she is "doing fine." It...
My gymie is level 7 and competes USAG. We are wondering if it would be better to do a full or layout on her first tumbuling pass. She is currently doing for her first pass RO BHS FULL and the third pass is RO BHS LAYOUT. Her full is good probably better than her layout but, is only scoring low...
Here's a link to Rayna's floor routine. She had her FHS changed to a front tuck and her leap line was changed. Oh, the order of her tumbling passes was changed as well.
My mom taped all of her competition and it's also on youtube, but it's 10 minutes long with about 7 of the minutes...
