The one leap/jump I find gymnasts struggle with is Split Jumps.
It is perhaps from Active Flex needing improving. I do resistance band jumps on the trampoline/ kicks with resistance bands.
What else can I do to improve the degree of split in split jumps????
Thank you in advance
While I was looking at various threads on tumbling, something hit me. I actually had an interesting thought (strange I know)
I have decided to try something a little different when coaching my tumblers. For tumbling, I see 3 ways for the kids to leave their feet. (not including the hurdle)

What do you do for a kid who struggles with jumping to the HB? I have a girl, about 5'1- so not much of a jump- who does an ugly tucked jump/fall/frog leg thing to the HB which makes it incredibly difficult for her to make her long hang pullover (does not yet have a kip) as she does a tucked...
I can't feel the bend in my legs. I can't feel when it's locked and when it's not so I have a bent ugly back leg. Any help on the split jump?
And in cartwheels I can't feel that my legs are bent. Usually I can feel it.
Okay, I know this might sound a little confusing. Regardless of who I ask at my gym, no one really understands what my issue is.
I have both my left and right splits, my right is definitely stronger though.
I can do a RIGHT split jump to probably 160
My left split jump is a mess...like it...
Hello all :)
I'm working on my back tuck. I'm beginning by jumping off of a high mat onto a low mat. My spotter claims that they barely touch me, and I land the back tuck on my feet. I do a good job of not throwing my head back, rotating (I think), and committing to the tuck. However, after...
1) I have a pike jump in my beam routine! Or did..The coach wants to take it out, but i am very determined to prove to her that i can do it with the appropriate height she is looking for (horizontal). What are some conditiong drills or flexibility drills i can do to get it higher? I dont think...
So what which be better? On beam DD has some choices on the beam routine. She needs a b jump so we are trying sissone/split jump and the sissone/ tuck jump with a 1/2 twist. Both the split jump and tuck with a 1/2 twist are bs. Here is the DD thoughts. She hates the split jump and honestly...
Dear coaches,
as a MAG gymnast and MAG coach, I am currently coaching WAG.
I could use some help for beam though, as boy's don't have a similar event (obviously).
So my question: are there some tips and tricks you can give me for basic jumps, leaps and turns.
Where do their feet have to be...
I have one gymnast who just can't get out of her feet. She got away with it ok in old level 4 but she's really struggling with a lot of new 4 skills. Straddle jumps, back handsprings, rebounds and especially vault (both sprint and punch) just look like they take sooo much effort. Any ideas?
Is it possible to jump from L5 to L8? I have all my L7 skills (almost!) and have mostly all L8 skills. L8 is not much different than L7 right? These are the skills I am working on:
Vault:
handspring working on handspring full
Bars:
Working on:
Flyaway
Giant

Level 7. I know you need a 180* on a split jump for a B skill. But is there a range where it counts as a B skill, with deduction for not reaching exactly 180*? (like with the hs on bars, where up to 10* hs still counts) If so, what is the minimum degree?

Most people assume that extremely flexible girls should have amazing jumps & leaps. My daughter, however, struggles with this & she is flexible in a freaky circus kind of way! I guess you could compare her to a very stretched out rubber band with no boing. Is there something the extreme flexible...
Hello! Longtime lurker just joining:) Which skill is easier to execute correctly a sissone, split jump, or leap(we tend to teeter totter leaps). We are required a jump or leap with a minimum 90 degree angle. This is for Xcel Silver.
Okay here's the story, My split change wolf jump is in my beam routine and has a 0.2 bonus for doing the split change. I do not always connect it and i generally wobble during or after. Basically it is a built in deduction. I ask my coach to take it out for state and just do split leap - no...
So, at training we were doing sheep jumps and one of the younger girls asked, why sheep jump? sheep don't touch their head with their feet when they jump, that's just silly!
Like shushanova etc can be explained as it was named after someone so was someone called _____sheep?
Same with a wolf...
for those who can see my avatar, is that a decent wolf jump? I always thought it was so pretty and she makes it look so easy with great height but then dd's coach pulled it from her beam routine saying there was too much risk of deductions. DD doesn't like me meddling too much in her training...
My DD's group have to do 100 box jumps during conditioning. DD and some of the others are starting to get very sore feet when they do this. DD tells me it doesn't seem to be working any particular muscles. Can someone tell me what is the purpose of this exercise?
