My 9 year old dd just got moved up from Pre-Team to the Level 4 Mason Dixon League (MDL) starting in June. What exactly is the main difference between the MDL and USAG gymnastics? In the gym handbook it says that the MDL generally goes by the USAG standards except there are about 6 competitions...
A mom at the gym the other day told me that when a gymnast turns 18 they can no longer compete in USAG except at the elite level. Is this right??? I don't see how that can be as many high school seniors turn 18 during their senior year and hope to get college scholarships and they are not...
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a list of exactly what's required for the level 2 beam routine. There is one part where my daughter kind of hesitates (it's really awkward) and she acts like she's not sure what to do next---I'll try to explain:
After the forward roll, she does...
I have a question on how Rec Optional can fit into possibly advancing into L7 (USAG) if at all. So my question is: Can you use a Rec Opt Advanced meet as some sort of qualifier for Optional L7 (USAG)? If it is a dumb question my apologies in advance!
In Region IV, a level 8 athlete needs to score a 36.5 at state, although the top nine girls from each state will represent the state and compete in a separate session. Athletes with less than a 36.5 might be picked up to fill the slate.
Level 9 and 10 athletes need to score a 34 at state...
I hope someone has this memorized because the USAG was tough to navigate. What is the qualifying score requirement to move from L6 to L7. I think it is 31.0 or better but not sure. Anyone know?
My gymie is level 7 and competes USAG. We are wondering if it would be better to do a full or layout on her first tumbuling pass. She is currently doing for her first pass RO BHS FULL and the third pass is RO BHS LAYOUT. Her full is good probably better than her layout but, is only scoring low...
My level 3/4s just can't seem to figure out how to keep their arms straight on their back extension rolls (to pike for the 3s and push up shape for the 4s). They are able to do the following drills:
1. straight arm roll off a pannel mat (only two pannels high)
2. Sit, roll back wards, slam...
All I can say is...ABOUT TIME!! I've known some real creeps that are coaches and wouldn't trust them around my children. Its about time USAG stepped up and instituted this policy, I really hope that all gym owners also do them on every employee.

Here are the proposed boys USAG Junior Olympic routines for the next quadrenium.

-I really like the press from prone to stradle stand. Excellent addition. But why not have it in...
I heard today that the deadline to register is Aug 31st? Is this true? Can you register during the year? My dd is switching gyms and will need to register when we move.
USAG Floor Routines?
It's so interesting to see how USAG chorographed (sp) them where it's the same routine with increasing skill variations. Do you think that was to just avoid confusion in learning /teaching it or help gymnasts progress faster through the levels or a little of both. KWIM?
