    Reason The Floor Is Blue

I was wondering if anybody knows why the typical color of a gymnastics floor is dark blue. If you where to ask anybody on the street what color the floor is they would tell you blue. Who came up with the color? Of course you can find other colors, gymnova for example is white, with a bit of red...

    Compulsory Floor Routines

I am from Canada, so I am just curious about splits being included in the floor routines for L4, L5, and L6. Our club is going to the US for a meet next year and lots of our girls that will be compulsory levels, don't have splits all the way down, some aren't even close. What about those girls...

I have a question about the level 2 aau routine in Florida. My daughter is competing for the first time this season. In her routine they do a tripod (feet straddled, touching floor, head down) moving to a pike position. In her class there are two coaches. The one coach was working mostly on...

    Floor deductions for dance

It seems the girls work a great deal on the the dance part of their floor routines and very little on adding the tumbling until just before a competion. My question is isn't the dance part a very small deduction such as .15 artisty and .10 rhythm. It seems they should put more time into the...

    Floor music?

I want to do a routine to the B-52's Rock Lobster song. I want it to be the correct lenght and no lyrics. The song is mostly instrumental so I don't think it would be hard to cut, or maybe someone has an instrumental version. Any idea on where I could find this or who could do it for me? I am...

Not Liking Your Child's Floor Routine

When my daughter was promoted to level 7 back in February, she inherited one of her old teammates floor routines. I like the music but not the routine. We paid a very small price to the former gymnasts to teach my daughter her floor routine. It meets all the requirements but I feel it is lacking...

How to NOT get your foot stuck doing turns on floor?

This might be a silly question but bear with me  lol I find that when doing spins/turns/pirouettes on floor, my foot gets "stuck" and stops spinning after about a 1/2 turn. My toes get caught and it just stops the rotation completely. I can do double turns easily on other surfaces...

    Floor Music Help!

I need to decide what music to use for my floor routine next year. I am an older level 7 gymnast, and I don't want anything slow, or more for younger gymnasts. I want something fast (upbeat), and that you can do fun dance to. Something not to repetitive. I want something that I can really get in...

    trouble with 3/2 on floor

This is mostly a question for coaches, but others are welcome to answer if they can help. I have been working on my 3/2 for a few weeks and I can make it all the way around, but my coaches say that I am looking where I would look for a full, not a 3/2. So my feet are facing forward, but I am...

okay, i only coach "lower levels", so i get kind of confused when i think about which floor skills are harder than others...if you are a high level gymnast, or were one, can you make a list for me that says which order you typically learn your floor tumbling in, and what level that skill is...
