Hi, I had a few questions about skills on high bar:
1. When you do a Higgins into eagle grip do you try to grasp the bar with your thumb around? (I've seen it done both with thumbs and without all the way up to elite and wondered which is more commonly taught/safer)
2. Do you do eagle grip...
Recently I learnt a new move on bars where I do a straddle undershoot catch the high bar, I think it's also know as a sole circle catch the high bar. I'm just wondering what is the proper name for this flight element?
And also I know some gymnasts do it with a pike undershoot catch! What is...
This looks like a wonderful waste of money....and fun; so I had to get one:
You can find other YouTube demonstrations as well.
Website is here. I got it cheaper on eBay- $72 with free shipping.
Love the natural tap action on it.
I'm wondering if it might be a fun teaching tool as well...
I am coming up to my 4th Xcel Silver competition and I had a simplified bar routine but now it is pullover, cast back hip circle, cast squat on, jump to high bar, 3 tap swings, 1/2 turn dismount. I recently got over my jump to high bar mental block, but now when I jump, I just fall to it and...
Can you give me some tips on how to get my high bar kip? I can do it on low bar, but it feels so weird on high bar, I just can't get it. Maybe the bars are the wrong setting?
My dd is 7 , 8 next May .
Question is when does my dd need this skill for as she has a fear problem . Would it be next October for level 5s , sorry I'm still learning x
I need to get straps for my son to learn giants, but he is small and his coach says he needs a 23 or a 23.5. The smallest I can find is 24.5. Any ideas (besides making my own)??
I need help in deciding what type of grips to use for high bar. I'm 16 and I'm in highschool gymnastics. I've already decided that I'm going to most likely buy buckled grips, but I've narrowed my choices down to the US glove and reichel sport. However, I don't know the difference between the...
DD(9 yo) has had a mental block regarding jumping to the high bar for several months now. I assume this is a mental block because she can squat on and jump off the single rail with no issues. She can squat on and balance herself on the low bar and single rail all day. She doesn't seem to have...
One of my level 4s is terrified of jumping o the high bar and catching. She's done:
1. Squat on jump touch (she'll jump and touch no matter how far/close the bars are)
2. Squat on, stand up, reach to hollow stand holding high bar
3. Jump from block and catch the bar.
Etc...
She's says she is...
DD had one more level 4 skill to get, the kip to the high bar, and tonight she got it! I'm so happy for her and she was excited. Of course I didn't see it as (if you caught my previous thread), I'm not allowed to watch! But I do look forward to seeing her new routines at meets with my camera...
A L4 of mine who has all of her bar skills, recently is terrified of jumping to the high bar. (after a stand in coach dident catch her when she clearly dident have the time to catch the bar (she had her shoulders way to far over in her squat on) every time she comes to my bar to practice...
I am in need of some grips for my kiddo....the coach said we might need to have them made because he has super duper tiny hands. He's moving his giants off strap bar to the regular bar and thus needs the grips unless we can't find any that will fit. When I say tiny hands I am not...
I was at my meet at All American meet and once we got on high bar something funny happened. First of all I forgot my grips so I did a high bar routine with out grips (first in like 2 years) and then I did a kip cast handstand and I forgot to shift my wrists so I got in the handstand and came...
Is it legitimate to be able to do a skill nicely on the low bar, but be afraid of it to the point where you cannot do it on the high bar? How can you work through such a fear? I assume it is a bit of a numbers game, because it is a new skill.
Any experience or thoughts?!?!
Time is ticking...
Hi everyone,
the gym where I train has a lot of recreational non-gymnast types (mostly kids), they use the high bar for doing pull ups and also as a strap bar, consequently it's pretty slippery. So slippery that even plain giants don't feel safe. Girls put honey and sugar and water and...
