    Bar skills progression?

So I'm fairly new to this, but I would like to know the progression of skills a gymnast learns on bars.. Starting out im thinking pullover, backhip circle, squat on, long hang pullover, shoot through, front hip circle, low bar glide kip, high bar kip or flyaway, ... and then it gets fuzzy. would...

In need of bar fairies this sunday!

I have my 3rd meet of the season this sunday, (march 18th) and it's kind of important! but i'm doing a somewhat new routine *eek!* I have added my squat on to high bar, (which. i mind you, i fell from and broke my ankle back in november), and it isn't even consistent. i have 3 more practices...

    weak level 5 bar routine

My daughter is 9 years old and a level 5 gymnast. She scores all 9's except bars which is very weak. She has one:confused: bent arm in her kip and cannot seem to connect anything, it starts out bad because she has to correct the bent arm before front hip circle, etc, etc. She also cannot make...

Doing a giant on the high bar but no flyaway?

Is there a way that my dd can incorporate a giant on the high bar but then somehow get in position to do the "pike-off" dismount? I am sure her coaches will figure it out. For gymnix she needs either an uprise (no way), a giant (she's a pro), or a flyaway (no way, she's terrified) as her...

    bar shorts?

Silly question....is it a bad idea to wear bar shorts all the time for practice? I never thought much about it but my dd refuses to practice without them. I noticed she slipped a few times on her bar routine (didn't fall)at her last meet. Perhaps she's not used to the feeling without shorts...

Question about bar settings for smaller gymnasts (L8-L10)

I have noticed that some gyms set their bars wide and some set them close for their smaller gymnasts. Can someone explain to me what the advantage/disadvantage would be for setting the bars all the way out for a gymnast that is small (under 5' tall)? How about setting them close (at or close...

    Level 10 bar question

I need a little help with a scoring deduction for level 10 Bars. My dd had a good bar routine this weekend and got a 9.150. Her coach thought it was a little low and asked the judge. She said she took .3 off for a rhythm deduction because she swings too slow. My dd has been an optional for 8...

A little freaked over the high bar.

My newly level 7 gymmie wont do her cast handstands on the high bars. She was fine in level 5 but now the whole hanstand thing gives her the creeps. This is wierd because she loves them on the low bar and holds them. She doesnt even like giants on them anymore because, get this, when she reaches...

Parents Buy a Bar or not to buy a Bar

Hello all! I have been going back and forth on this decision for a while now... here is my story My dd is 5 and in an "advanced class" at our gym. The problem is that she has lost some skills, and I know this happens in gymnastics but I feel she has lost them because of not having the...

Men Pull over on high bar... HELP!!!!

Ok my first level 5 meet is in a week and i cant do a pullover by myself without my feet touching the floor. I have tried conditioning, drills, spotters you name it. I have strong enough arms I just cant get my legs over the bar! I'm really scared that I'll make my team lose if I can't do a...

    Bar Routine Endurance

What are some good things to do to improve bar endurance? By the time dd has done her shootever and hiccup to high bar she is already tired and her blind change front giant looks really sloppy, and then her dismount is not as high as it usually is. Her coach has them doing a lot of cardio, but...

    Giants on the Real Bar

My daughter won't compete level 7 for a year, but she very bravely got up on the real bar tonight and did her cast handstand to three giants. A month ago she was near a nervous breakdown thinking she would never get her giants. And a couple weeks ago she was in tears about having to do them...

    level 8 bar requirement

Can you do a giant-giant tuck flyaway in level 8? Is a layout flyaway required, or is it just needed so that the gymnast has enough B's in her routine? If so, what other skills can be used to fill this B requirement?

Cast handstand connected to giants on strap bar! - And a QUESTION?

DD did this last night!! I posted a little while back that she was scared of going over on the giants. Well the coach had her start with tuck giants, then raised the bar but still let her do them in tuck, then had her work on them with a tuck and straightening her legs at the bottom, then she...

    Level 7 Bar Questions

Hi My DD is a new level 7. She has her giants but not her giant giant fly away. What is the deduction for doing a giant giant kip cast fly away instead of a flyaway from her giant giant? And what about if she does a giant giant pull over swing fly away? I hope I said that all right! Also I...

Start value for this level 9 bar routine??

Board mount to kip cast horizontal shoot over, kip squat on jump to high bar, kip cast 1/2 turn, kip cast bounce back layout dismount. Would this meet all requirements for a level 9 gymnast? Would it start from a 9.7?

    Level 8 Bar Routine Comparisons

Hey Chalkbucket! I'm competing level 8 for the second time this season, and so far everything is going well... except my bar routine... Despite my extra year of practice, my bar routine has gotten only slightly better. But one thing that is still a problem for me is my clear hip to handstand...
