So, we all know the extreme measures girls do to NOT fall off the beam. Arms waving wildly, body turning sideways, bending in half leg clutching.....that kind of stuff. After sitting through a level 4 meet, I saw lots of beam cartwheels, but the same question would apply to many beam skills...
In the beginning when you have to swing your dominant leg over the beam and it has to be straight mine is always bent how do I get my leg straight on those and on leg cuts.
I have a friend who after her mount she lays over the end of the beam with her back arched and arms out. It looks really pretty! But in order to do this she hooks her feet on the bottom of the beam. She DOES NOT touch the metal supports of the beam. Is this a deduction?
Dear coaches,
as a MAG gymnast and MAG coach, I am currently coaching WAG.
I could use some help for beam though, as boy's don't have a similar event (obviously).
So my question: are there some tips and tricks you can give me for basic jumps, leaps and turns.
Where do their feet have to be...
Other than bwo-bwo, or bwo-bhs...what are some acro series options for level 7 beam? does cartwheel cartwheel work? Or handstand-bwo? Tick tock bhs? Tick tock bwo?
My daughter is almost 11 and getting ready to compete level 9 . She is working back tucks on beam as well as a new round off full dismount . Since she "bangs " her feet together when landing on the beam for these 2 skills , she has a bump and lots of bruising on that Boney part on the inside of...
My DD is in a very large group and doesn't get help like she needs. She only goes 1 day a week and can't get the routine down. They only practice beam about 20 minutes.
Okay guys posted this before but not many replies ... I still need more help with the front toss or as some of you call it Front kickover on beam. She works all the drills for aerials and I have her working front tucks. I feel like her center of gravity drops immediately to the mat when she...
Dd was talking about connections on beam for future years and it got me thinking. I remember hearing something at last year's Olympics about how the elites are deducted for taking an extra swing for momentum when connecting skills. That they have to plan their skills so that their hands end in...
Is defined as this on the GymDogs website:
Kick Over front - gymnast starts standing and swings one leg backwards overhead making herself flip forward landing in a sitting position on the beam with one leg straight and one bent.
Does this have another name? Not seeing any YouTube videos where...
I can do a straddle lever and raise my hips slightly. The handstand bit is what I can't seem to get the hang of! whenever my hips are raised to a certain height, my arms bend and I just fall. does anyone have any exercises or tips to help me get this move in about two weeks?:o Also I was...
My daughter has been put into IDP 2 (was in National 2). She is competing in just over a week and only just started learning her new routine last night. She is 8 and does pick things up ok but this is a whole new level with lots of new element that she has not done before.
so if anyone knows of...
My coach is making me start wearing beam shoes since flight skills, leaps & jumps on beam are killing my heels (and my ridiculously sweaty feet literally slide off the beam- it's like walking on ice.)
I don't know anything about beam shoes & I have two options:

DD's coaches want her to include a back extension-BHS combination on beam and DD began working them yesterday. She is having fun because she likes working skills she doesn't see a whole lot. However, in the mean time, she is tearing the heck out of her skin on her upper back in the center.
Is...
I practiced with the level 5's today on their beam routines timing them and I noticed how short the time limit was. One minute and ten seconds. I think it is the same as the last routine but while the girls were doing their routines, they remarked on how cut close the time limit was.
I myself...
