Is there a deduction for a USAG Level 4 gymnast hitting vertical on handstand? I just read in another thread where someone thought that there was a deduction, but couldn't remember. If yes, what is the deduction? .1? .3? full value of the skill? I only wonder because my dd's L4 teammates...

Hi, I was wondering if any of you wear them? Our coach said that we can get them if we want to use on beam and floor but they cost a lot and take ages to wear in like grips. Do you like them? Do they help you? Is bare feet better? Our coach said many of the girls in the gym just wear them as a...

    Landing position for Beam handstands

I have two beam videos that I watched recently that gave conflicting information. Level 5 Beam Mount

My dd is a first year level 5, and is half-way through her season. She really struggles with the mount on beam, and I am hoping for some advice or excercises she can do at home to help. From what I can see, after her v-sit, she puts her left heel down on the beam to stand up. It makes more...

Beam Deduction Coach standing by beam

I hear there is a dectution for the coach standing by the beam. Our coach always stands next to the beam like off the matts, but 3-4 feet away. Is that really a deduction? Level 4 none of the girls get any type of spotting. Thanks.

My level 5 daughter fell off the beam tonight doing a cartwheel. She has struggled with this skill. She can do it, but it's a mental thing with her. She had split the beam at level 3 and never forgot how it felt. She has been working so hard on getting confident doing the CW and she was...

    Back walkovers on beam

Today one of our coaches forced me to do a back walkover straight onto the high beam, with no padding on the beam, and barely any help :( after about 3 minutes of me saying 'I can't do it' and the coaches telling me to do it, I did it and landed it. But how can I get over my fear?

    Beam Nerves

Any ideas or practice techniques for overcoming nervousness on beam during meets? Girls that have beautiful beam routines in practice and can hit every time sometimes fall apart in meets. I don't know how to teach confidence under pressure.
