Our gym (YMCA) has never done a season of level 6 before. Generally they do Level 3, 4, 5, novice prep op, intermediate prep op, do a meet to score out of level 6, then go to Level 7. But this year the group they have coming out of level 5 (my DD included) are all much younger than the current...
I meant to look this up before I left work but forgot and am sure somewhere here knows the answer. I was thinking an extra swing in the level 6 bar routine was around a .3 deduction, but what about pausing to adjust grip or just stopping before the next skill? Is it the same or a lesser...
Would you rather see a cast to handstand and go over/miss the free hip or be safe and cast just high enough.
I know going over would be a fall but dd just got her cast handstand and spent some time yesterday trying to work it in. She was only making her free hip or not going over about half the...
Today my dd competed in the Svetlana Invitational in Houston. She was competing in order to score a qualifying score of 32.00 so she could advance to optionals. I'm proud to say that she accomplished what she set out to do and then some. Here are the videos from the meet. Hope you enjoy...
What are your thoughts on these levels? It seems that around here, the gyms do things differently after level 5. Some do level 6. Some do "Prep Op" (am still not 100% certain of what this consists of). Some do level 7.
What are the disadvantages of going from level 5 to level 7?
Am trying to...
DD had a meet this weekend and had a good, clean beam routine. When she went to handstand to dismount, she didn't make it up all the way and came back down on the beam. She then re-did the handstand but into the turned position and dismounted. My question is, did she lose all points for that...

This weekend was the KICK-OFF. We went last year and had a blast so we were looking forward to this year . . and we had our eyes on the spirit award. Last year the team that won had all male coaches wearing little cheer costumes. We figure you only get to win for that once - and...
Title says it all... Trixie had asked to move to L6 the summer but the HC told her to wait and see how the first few meets went. Apparently well enough! Trixie's bar coach approached me a few weeks ago to see how I'd feel about the move and I thought it would be good for her - more hours in...
I am friends with USAG on facebook and today they posted a link to this story.
It's about 10 year old Lola, a L6 gymmie who is legally blind. I can't figure out how to turn to captions on the video but the comments made it seem like a very heart warming and inspiring story, thought I would...
Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knew the regulations for floor springs for level 6. Do they have to be 6 inch springs or can they be 4 inch springs! Any help will be grateful!
Thanks so much!
The parents from the session before us said the judging was tough...and we were the last session of the weekend. 4:30 on a Sunday night - ugh. We had a bunch of tired judges. Not for nothing but they may have dozed off when kids fell LOL. But as usual scoring makes no sense. And I'm sure...
Well daughter survived her 1st level 6 meet this past weekend. She was so excited to get to do all 4 events she did alright in beam landed her backwalkover and vault was basically the same as she was in level5. She was having trouble with bars tapping her feet and had a bad rip which she...
Hello! New to the site... I have a level 6 gymnast who of course I think is amazing. She has been in gym for 2 1/2 years and this is her first season in level 6. I have been browsing through some topics and lots of interesting stuff on here. I have lots of questions so I'm looking forward to...
Hi
My daughter's first Level 6 meet is tomorrow. She's ready for everything but bars! She's only done her flyaway once or twice without a spot....she can do it but is afraid!
After practice last night she was excited that she 'just about did it' with only a light hand spot 'just in case' :)...
What is the significance of tapping your feet on the level 6 bar routine. Daughters coach told her she might not compete bars at the meet she has in 2 days because she was tapping her feet. My daughter says the bars were in to far they have a large age range and heights in her group and this...
Kyrie had her last Level 6 competition this weekend. She did really good and got 2nd AA. We just had to switch gyms because unfortunately our gym recently closed. The new gym uses the new music so she was a bit behind since she only worked on it a few times with that music. We do love our new...
I have a few girls that are really struggling with keeping straight legs when they are landing/pushing out of the first (step out) front handspring in the level 6 pass and going into the second one (2 foot)....Any suggestions?

Saturday was Jess's first level 6 meet. She did well and had a great time. She's just back into grips and is not a fan of bars to begin with LOL.
The session after this was USAIGC - and yes, she did that too. It was her first competition with these routines. I tried to feed...
