Hi Everyone,
I am designing a back handspring training aid and would love to get other coaches contributions. What do you need from a back handspring training aid? What can your gymnasts gain from it? How can you ensure it encourages correct technique?
All comments welcome, I am looking...
DD got her back handspring! She's been doing them with a light spot for a little while now, but Friday she did it by herself, on the tumble track with no spot!! She was so happy and excited, once she got it she kept doing it over and over again!!
According to my daughter, her coach spots backhandspring on beam differently depending on the gymnast. Hence, the backhandspring performed by the gymnasts in her gym differs slghtly. The first half is uniform, jumping backward etc. The last segment and/or coming out of a backhandspring is...
Hi everyone
So I can do a bhs on high beam by myself with 2 eight inches under it. My coach won't let me do them without the mats until I can do it on the low beam. Whenever I do it on the low beam by myself I always can't land it. I always split the beam and land hard on my knees. I don't...
So I've heard that young children are not supposed to do back-bends, etc., until age 5 (or 6?). When browsing youtube the other day (I think I was looking to see what a 'flyaway' was) I came across a 2.5 year old girl working on backhandsprings at a gym. Also, working on back tucks. The...
If you already have a back handspring on floor then this video isnt for you, also if you have a short attention span (video is 22 minutes long), but this is 10 years of coaching condensed as small as I possibly could. Hope you like it.

Okay, I am currently on exchange and am lucky enough to be training while i am over here :D Super excited.
But on floor they were doing drills for round off flic by round off to landing on back on a crash mat. But instead of having arms by their ears they had there arms down by their sides...
Yay for her. She is so very pleased with herself. After 10 weeks of no gymnastics, 3 weeks of gymnastics lite (no back flexion skills) and 2 weeks of full gym she has her back handspring on beam!
I knew she was close and I came early to pick up so I could watch a bit. I'm so glad I did...
so i have this reacurring fear of backhandspings. its something i've learned to deal with, but its still annoying. at first, it started with being scared of tumblingo. then i got scared of bhs on beam. then i even got scared of a bhs on the floor. i got everything i needed for competition...

hello....my DD joined her gym's team in June as a level 4 gymnast....she has been working on her back handspring for two years now and has been very close for at least a year now..she has it on the wedge and trampoline but when she attempts it on the flat mat her arms buckle....she knows she...
Currently, I am working on BHS on beam. When i have a spot, I do great, my coach tells me they are beautiful! But when she won't spot me, I'm a nervous wreck. A stack mats by the beam and im fine. But then when I take them away, Again, I'm a nervous wreck.
My coach tells me I over think it...
I thought I posted this earlier, so if it's a duplicate, just ignore!
What is the "correct" way to teach this skill? I was just wondering because I've seen girls perform it with one hand over the other, and others place their hands side by side. It seems to me that the girls who have one hand...
I been in gymnastics for a couple of months now and I just stated level 4 . And for my floor routine I need to do a round off backhandspring and I can do it with a spotter , And the spotters barely touch me .
But when I do it by myself I do my round off and then I stop , And then i do my...
HELP! JUDGES! COACHES!One arm backhandspring connection on beam (level 9)

I am a coach for beginner level 4s and they are currently learning back handspring. When i was a gymnast ever coach I had told me to land with my arms by my ears after both round-off and back handspring. A new coach comes in and says that they must land with their arms in front of them. Now all...
Im going to be level 9 this up coming season and planning on connecting split jump one arm backhandspring, I have been having trouble with getting my one arm centered on the beam when adding in the split jump. I have no problem just doing the one arm backhandspring by itself but connecting it is...
