I have some questions about typical meet behavior.
1. Is it common for the coach to high-five every gymnast after a routine at a meet? I see this all the time on youtube. I'm curious because Dd's coach never high-gives or even really says anything to a gymnast after she competes, but just...
Our level 8 team has a bunch of young ones this year, including my daughter. They are having a blast together. This video was from our recent meet in San Francisco:
Okay, so I have a meet coming up and I have no idea what to eat before then. In the mornings, I'm never hungry, so I need ideas on what to eat before a meet. Also, some ideas on what to bring during the meet would be helpful too.
Long time coming....injuries, a move across the country, broken foot but she did pretty good for her first time out! I was very proud of her courage and bars is my favorite...takes guts to do the release move again after a fall!
DD (7) had her second level 4 meet last night... She moved to 4 only 4 weeks ago. At her first level 4 meet last weekend, she rocked it. Last night was a big one with a lot of strong competition. In the end though, she made huge mistakes that brought her to the middle of the pack on our team...
Hello everyone! I have a meet tomorrow, and at my last one I tried a half up half down bun that I do at practice. (Like McKayla Maroney's.) But it came down after I started on floor. I have a backwards roll in my routine, so it can't be a ponytail. (My hair is long, thick, yet fine. It's...
Hi all,
My Dd had her first optional meet a few days ago. Her normal coach was there as well as the head coach who never works with her. She is still a little weak on bars due to bent legs and is working to improve. During warm-up on bars, the HC noticed her bent legs and told her he would...
Well, D's first meet was next weekend. Then last night during game time everyone starts running around and panicking. frantic. All I got was "your son....bleeding" I run out into the gym, and he is, screaming, bleeding. He had banged his foot on some metal bleachers playing a game. Huge...
Do any of your kids have a preferred dinner the night before a meet?
My ds' favorite dinner before a meet is roasted salmon, white rice and asparagus. Dd prefers some form of pasta, or stir fry (both with chicken).
Well DD had a successful State meet and in 3 weeks time since then has learned all of her level 4 routines... Or let's hope!
I have not watched a single practice since states and have never seen her do a front handspring vault even... But her first level 4 meet is Saturday!
Coach told me that...
My dd is going to the Buckeye classic for the first time this year. We just got the schedule. This meet is huge!! I had no idea how large is was. It should be fun!
My daughter has a meet this weekend and her session starts at 7 pm. She's 10 and is usually in bed by 8:45 and asleep by 9:15 at the latest. So far all of her meet sessions, this season and last, have been in the mornings or afternoons.
I am looking for suggestions on how to keep her fresh (for...
So we had our first Level 7 meet a week ago. As some of you know, my little dd was a Level 4 last year. So we set expectations low;)
DD was put into the "A" age group. Someone here on CB had warned me this can be a fierce group, and they were right! This was the 3rd meet of the season for other...
Muffin, level 1, had her first meet yesterday. She was confident and beautiful and solid! She got 2nd All Around, 1st on bars and floor with the two highest scores of the meet! A 37.10 at her first meet made this mama proud as a peacock! She also increased her Physical Abilities score by 33...
Does anyone know the criteria to qualify for the mens state meet in South Carolina? For girls last year there was a minimum score that varied by level. I can't find any information on our state site or anywhere else. Thank you very much!!
This past weekend was our 2nd meet of the year. Just the week after the first meet of the Year.
My DD had gotten hit with the Flu during the week. She made it back to school on Friday and practiced on Friday night. She came home with a high temp. again.... With competition on Saturday we...
Mixed bag. Bronze and Silver went together in the morning. I was stunned how well they did. 13 girls and all but one hot medals. We had a 1st place vault, 3rd place AA, a 9.7! Lots of great stuff.
Gold was a disaster. We came away with a 5th place bars and an 8th place floor, but all the girls...
So I was making a point to our facility director about proper staffing and I wanted to know, on average how many coaches does your gym send to competitions.
We have a medium sized team, anywhere from 8-12 kids per level from USAG 2- 5 and then maybe 15 optional girls.....
Our gym regularly likes...
